Dear Mr. Crisp,
We are responding to the emailed review comments dated July 12, 2024, as follows:
1.The ASEA indicates a proposed sewer flow rate on page 2 of 5, line #8 of 10,500 GPD based
on 50 lots at 210 GPD per residence for 3 bedroom homes as indicated. This equates to a
proposed flowrate of 70 GPD per bedroom per home. Line #7 of the same page indicates a
reduced sewer flowrate has been approved by the Division for this permittee facility, but no copy
of the approval letter from the Division appears to be included. Please provide a copy of the
approval letter, as required, or a revised application. The requested Flow Reduction Letter was
provided via email on 07-12-24 by the Director of Brunswick County Engineering, William Pinnix.
2.The ASEA indicates 360 gallons of emergency storage is provided on page 3 of 5, line #4 in
each simplex pump station wetwell, but no calculations are included in the supporting documents
confirming this amount of storage. Please provide. A copy of the approved Brunswick County
Barnes Grinder Pump Station submittal has been provided for your use. On page 3 under Tank,
the second sentence confirms a reserve storage of 360 Gallons. Additionally, the reserve
storage elevation and 360 gallons is identified on the pump station cut sheet.
3.The project narrative and the overall engineering site plans included in the project submittal
reference a downstream sewer pump station, but the FTSE does not include an evaluation of
the pump station and if there is sufficient capacity to serve the 50 lots served by the LPSS.
Please provide a revised FTSE that includes the evaluation of this pump station. The pump
station gravity system that the low pressure system discharges to is currently being permitted as
NCBELS License C-5102

part of the subdivision design. The pump stations calculations account for all flows in the system
both low pressure and gravity.
4.The project engineering plan and profile sheets submitted include some proposed 8-inch
gravity sewer, as well as the proposed LPSS wastewater collection system. How is the gravity
sewer portion of this project being permitted? The gravity portion of this system as well as pump
stations are currently being permitted through the FTA program via the NCDEQ Wilmington
Regional Office.
5.Sheets C4.27 and C4.3 of the engineering plan and profile sheet appear to indicate fire hydrant
assemblies and the pressure sewer blow-off assemblies that are located adjacent to each other
in the two (2) cul-de-sacs of Street "M". Please verify and label that a minimum horizontal
separation of 10 feet will be provided between these utilities. The label has been added as
requested. Copies of the revised plan sheets have been provided for your use.
6.The engineering plans on sheet C6.8 in the simplex pump station detail have a reference to
anti-flotation requirements of Brunswick County, but no specifics provisions and no calculations
are provided, as required in ASEA instructions. Please provide anti-flotation calculations for the
proposed simplex pump stations. The approved Brunswick County Barnes grinder pump station
submittal. Page 6 provides Basin Ballast Requirements. See circled Basin Ballast
Requirements. Additionally, see Buoyancy Calcs.

Brunswick County flow reductions to develop a comprehensive flow reduction that would apply to all
permitted but not yet tributary residential connections and all future residential connections within the
Brunswick County service area.In accordance with 15A NCAC 02T.0114(f)(2),the Division has evaluated
the existing flow reductions as granted to various portions of Brunswick County,and based on input
from the Wilmington Regional Office as well as historical data for the county and the Division of Water
Infrastructure(DWI)guidance,the Division hereby approves for use by Brunswick County an adjusted
daily sewage design flow rate with the following conditions:
• The flow reduction is applicable to residential single family dwellings only.
• The minimum flow for 1 and 2 bedroom dwellings shall be 140 gallons per day.
• Each additional bedroom above two bedrooms shall increase the volume by 70 gallons per day
per bedroom (e.g.three bedroom homes shall utilize 210 gallons per day).
• This flow reduction shall not apply to sewer extension applications and/or permits for any other
public or private organizations whose wastewater flows are or might become tributary to
Brunswick County collection system(WQCS00284).
o The flow reduction may be applied to sewer extension applications and/or permits
where the permitted development shall be transferred to Brunswick County upon
completion.
• This flow reduction is only applicable for developments with flows tributary to the current
existing wastewater treatment facilities,and shall supersede any previous flow reductions
granted to developments tributary to the following treatment plants:

Georgetown (185 GPD per 3-bedroom unit) and Bald Head Island (305 GPD per unit)shall
remain in place,as they do not connect to Brunswick County's collection system.
• This flow reduction must be reevaluated and approved by the Division prior to application to
any future Brunswick County treatment facilities.
Future sewer extension applications should be made using the flow reduction amount stated above. All
other aspects of the permitting process remain unchanged, and all applications must comply with the
statues, rules, regulations and minimum design criteria as certified by the owner and engineer.
Regardless of the adjusted design daily wastewater flow rate,at no time shall the wastewater flows
exceed the effluent limits as defined in the permit for the treatment facility or exceed the capacity of
the sewers downstream of any new sewer extension or service connection(s).
The granting of this flow reduction does not prohibit the Division from reopening, revoking, reissuing
and/or modifying the flow reduction as allowed by the laws, rules,and regulations contained in 15A
NCAC 02T, NCGS 143-215.1,or as needed to address changes in State and/or Federal regulations with
respect to wastewater collection systems, protection of surface waters and/or wastewater treatment.

Tank
YES Tank shall be constructed of High Density Polyethylene or Fiberglass Polyester Resin to withstand
normal exposal to 150 percent of the maximum external soil and hydrostatic pressure.
YES Tank capacity shall have reserve storage of 360 gallons above the pump on level.
YES Tank base shall contain a sufficient collar to allow for the required anti-floatation ballast. This may be
constructed so that the collar can be easily installed during installation.
YES Tank top shall contain an aluminum hatch with access door to allow for inspection and maintenance,also
the ability to lock top with a standard padlock for safety.
YES Tank internal discharge piping shall include Shut-off Valve,Check Valve and 1 1/4"discharge pipe.
YES Tank shall include a stainless steel 4/way float bracket to hang 3 floats and pump power cord and a 2"

Control Panel

YES Grinder assembly shall be constructed of stainless steel material and capable of reducing all components

Crane Pumps&Systems warrants that products of our manufacture will be free of defects in material and workmanship
under normal use and service for thirty-six (36) months after manufacture date, when installed and maintained in
accordance with our instructions.This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and there may also be other rights
which vary from state to state. In the event the product is covered by the Federal Consumer Product Warranties
Law(1)the duration of any implied warranties associated with the product by virtue of said law is limited to the same
duration as stated herein, (2) this warranty is a LIMITED WARRANTY, and (3) no claims of any nature whatsoever
shall be made against us, until the ultimate consumer, his successor, or assigns, notifies us in writing of the defect,
and delivers the product and/or defective part(s) freight prepaid to our factory or nearest authorized service station.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply.
THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR BREACH OF ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO ANY

Tank
YES Tank shall be constructed of High Density Polyethylene or Fiberglass Polyester Resin to withstand
normal exposal to 150 percent of the maximum external soil and hydrostatic pressure.
YES
Tank capacity shall have reserve storage of 360 gallons above the pump on level.
YES Tank base shall contain a sufficient collar to allow for the required anti-floatation ballast. This may be
constructed so that the collar can be easily installed during installation.
YES Tank top shall contain an aluminum hatch with access door to allow for inspection and maintenance, also
the ability to lock top with a standard padlock for safety.
YES Tank internal discharge piping shall include Shut-off Valve, Check Valve and 11/4"discharge pipe.
YES Tank shall include a stainless steel 4/way float bracket to hang 3 floats and pump power cord and a 2'
NPT female electrical discharge coupling located at the top side of tank.
Control Panel
YES The control panel shall be a NEMA watertight enclosure with a hinged lockable cover.
YES The panel shall have two 15 amp single pole breakers for separate control and alarm circuits. One two
pole breaker sized to pump full load amps for each pump.
Yes Panel to have a Visual Alarm mounted to the top of panel, wired to stay on until wet well drops below
high level float setting. An audio alarm externally mounted with a push-to-silence button.
YES Motor starter shall be designed for continuous operation and equipped with thermal overloads sized for
normal current load range. SKRITES - OVERLOADS ARE CONTAINED WITHIN THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY FOR THE
BARNES MODELS OGP AND OGV SERIES GRINDERS
YES Control system design shall be equipped to operate from mini float level sensors.
YES Duplex Panel shall contain a manual emergency power transfer switch and generator receptacle_ An
automatic programmable phone dialer to include alarm points for high level, power loss, and control
system failure.
Grinder Pump
YES The grinder pump shall be designed to be suitable for domestic wastewater service.
YES Pump motor shall not exceed 2 HP and operate at 230-240 volts I phase.
YES Grinder assembly shall be constructed of stainless steel material and capable of reducing all components
in normal domestic sewage.
YES Pump/core shall be provided with a mechanical shaft seal to prevent leakage between the motor and
pump.

50 grinder pump station packages:

INDIVIDUAL CAPACITORS OR COMPLETE MOTOR ASSEMBLY CAN BE
PROVIDED FOR SPARE PARTS NEEDS.
Warranty
YES The manufacturer shall provide a 24-month warranty of all defects from the date of installation by the
County but not to exceed 30 months from the date of receipt of purchase.

Crane Pumps&Systems warrants that products of our manufacture will be free of defects in material and workmanship
under normal use and service for thirty-six (36) months after manufacture date, when installed and maintained in
accordance with our instructions.This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and there may also be other rights
which vary from state to state. In the event the product is covered by the Federal Consumer Product Warranties
Law(1)the duration of any implied warranties associated with the product by virtue of said law is limited to the same
duration as stated herein, (2) this warranty is a LIMITED WARRANTY, and (3) no claims of any nature whatsoever
shall be made against us, until the ultimate consumer, his successor, or assigns, notifies us in writing of the defect,
and delivers the product and/or defective part(s) freight prepaid to our factory or nearest authorized service station.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply.
THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR BREACH OF ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO ANY
