We are providing additional information regarding the noted violation. This violation is referenced by
the tracking number that it was assigned.
Subject: Notice Of Violation

This violation includes a parameter that was out on the monthly average; Nitrogen, Ammonia Total.
The cause of this violation for the exceedance for the above -listed parameters is due to our influent
#2 (Tyson) being over on ammonia in addition to excess amount coming from our digester #3 that
feeds our dewatering building (press). We have had higher than average loading and a tougher time
processing the ammonia due to #2 clarifier being out of service. During this time of year typically
this plant has struggled in dealing with ammonia. Our normal ammonia removal rate is about 30%.
Since this average exceedance, we have noticed that the ammonia level has been trending down.
With the approval by Wilkesboro Town Council for the repair of our Clarifier #2, we are still waiting
for this project to be completed. We have also changed the amount of time that our press is running
and adjusted the air in our digester to aid in reducing ammonia sent back to the plant through the
filtrate.
In closing, the Town feels as though we have addressed these violations, it is our near future goal to
alleviate these issues through a plant upgrade. We have already taken major steps towards this
upgrade as we are in the final stages of beginning construction. As a result of the action steps listed
previously, we would respectfully request your consideration of revaluing these�Notices of Violation
as a Notice of Deficiency.
