On May 2nd, 2024, Ron Boone, of the Winston-Salem Regional Office of the NC Division of Water
Resources, conducted a compliance evaluation inspection at Halyard's Lexington Facility, discharge
permit NCG500098. The assistance of Jordan Rummage was greatly appreciated. Inspection findings
are summarized below:
The facility produces a cooling tower wastewater. Mr. Rummage stated that the facility has two
discharge options. The first is to discharge to the city wastewater collection system and the second is
to discharge to the stream. Control of the discharge is achieved through valves.
Mr. Rummage stated he's been at Halyard for about eight years and you have not discharged to the
stream during that entire time.
Mr. Boone reminded Mr. Rummage that, in accordance with the permit, if a discharge to the stream
occurs, Halyard must monitor the discharge as specified in the permit. Mr. Rummage acknowledged
the requirement. Mr. Boone gave Mr. Halyard a copy of the general permit. The general permit
number is NCG500000 and Halyard's certifcate of coverage number under the general permit is
NCG500098.
Mr. Rummage also asked if Halyard must submit test results to the Division. At this time, Halyard is
only required to keep monitoring result on file for a period of no less than three years.
Mr. Boone noted no concerns or violations during the inspection. Another inspection will be
conducted in about five years if Halyard's permit is still active.
