Please refer to Terracon Report No. K6235056 dated August 3, 2023 for recommendations regarding geotechnical related aspects of the project. The SHWT determined by the licensed soil scientist was encountered at a depth of 50 inches below the existing ground surface at the test location. Infiltration testing was performed at a depth of 23 inches below the existing ground surface. The infiltration rate at the test location was 3.11 inches per hour. Please refer to the attached Stormwater Soil Evaluation report for additional information. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions concerning this addendum or if we may be of further service, please contact us. Sincerely, Terracon Mir- LiatRey Jritih Denico(a Nicholas R. Lindley, G.I.T. Justin L. Subject: Stormwater Soil Evaluations Project No. 23-055-SS Dollar General Fayetteville Road Raeford, NC Dear Mr. DeNicola: Terrain Environmental Consulting, PLLC (Terrain) appreciates the opportunity to provide you with this report for stormwater soil evaluation services associated with the design of a stormwater control measure (SCM) at the above referenced project site. The results of the testing are presented below. PROJECT BACKGROUND Terrain was contracted by Terracon to perform soil evaluation services, specifically seasonal high water table (SHWT) evaluation and hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) testing, to assist with the future design of an SCM at the above referenced project site. An aerial photograph showing the test location (SCM-1) was provided and the test location was marked in the field prior to our mobilization. Review of the Web Soil Survey showed the area at the test location is mapped with the Lakeland-Urban land complex which is generally described as excessively drained soil formed in sandy marine deposits and eolian sands on low hills with an expected SHWT greater than 80 inches below the ground surface. RESULTS Seasonal High Water Table Evaluation The SHWT evaluation was performed on November 1, 2023 by advancing a hand auger boring at the test location (SCM-1), as shown on the attached Stormwater Soil Evaluation sketch (Figure 1). The hand auger boring was advanced to a depth of approximately 72 inches below the existing ground surface. Soils were evaluated by a Licensed Soil Scientist for evidence of SHWT influence. This evaluation involved looking at the actual moisture content in the soil and observing the matrix and mottle colors. Depending on the soil texture, the soil color will indicate processes that are Terrain Environmental Consulting Project 23-055-SS November 3, 2023 Dollar General Raeford, NC Stormwater Soil Evaluations driven by SHWT fluctuations such as iron reduction and oxidation and organic matter staining. At SCM-1 , soils consisted of medium sand surface and near surface horizons underlain by a sandy loam horizon with slightly sticky consistency. The SHWT was estimated to be at 50 inches below the ground surface. A Soil Profile Description sheet, which provides a description of the observed soil horizons and the estimated SHWT depth, has also been included with this report. Ksat Testing Terrain personnel performed in-situ saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) testing at the test location after the SHWT evaluation was complete. Specifically, the constant- head well permeameter technique (also known as shallow well pump-in technique and bore hole permeameter method) was used. This procedure is described in Methods of Soil Analysis, Part 1., Chapter 29 — Hydraulic Conductivity of Saturated Soils: Field Methods, 29 — 3.2 Shallow Well Pump In Method, pp. 758-763 and in the Soil Science Society of America Journal, Vol. 53, no. 5, Sept. — Oct. 1989, "A Constant-head Permeameter for Measuring Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity of the Vadose Zone" and "Comparison of the Glover Solution with the Simultaneous — Equations Approach for Measuring Hydraulic Conductivity." This method involves allowing a measured volume of water to percolate through the soil until a steady rate of flow is achieved. The steady state rate is used to calculate the Ksat of the soil horizon using the Glover equation. The Ksat test was performed approximately two feet above the SHWT. The Ksat rate was calculated at 3.11 inches per hour. See Table 1 below for a summary of the soil evaluation results.
