Dear Sir:
Subject: Permit Modification for extension of Nationwide Permit 23 for the improvements to the
intersection at US 15-501 and Irwin Road in Chapel Hill, Orange County. Federal Project NHS-
15(9), State Project No. 81502101, WBS Element 35009.1.1, T.I.P. No. U-4008, Division 7,
Action ID 200320678.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is preparing for letting this project on May 16,
2006. This project involves improving the intersection of US 15-501 and Irwin Road in Orange County. Traffic will
be maintained in the existing intersection during construction.
On July 7, 2004 a Section 404 permit, Action ID 20032067 was issued. This permit is set to expire on July
7, 2006. NCDOT hereby requests an extension for the authorized activity to March 18, 2007. This extra time will
enable NCDOT to finish the construction of the intersection within the conditions of the Section 404 and 401
permits.
