Description of Operations
Allen Canning Company is a vegetable processing facility located in Turkey, N.C. During:the production
process; water is used for washing and cooking of the product. Water is also used for sanitation purposes, ,
such as cleaning equipment.
The used water is then pumped to a waste hopper, where the water and solids are separated.,The solids ....
are collected in the waste hopper and picked up by a recycling company. The remaining water, is then.
pumped to a detention lagoon approx. three (3) acres in size. The water then flows to a holding;lagoon-. _
approx. twenty-seven (27) acres in size.
The water is then pumped onto the land using a solid set irrigation system and three traveling reels. _All
permitted land is divided into zones which is represented on the monthly NDAR report.
The grass: is harvested as hay and taken off the land. Cover crops of Annual Ryegrass are planted during
the fall to provide absorption of water sprayed during the winter months.
This process is continually monitored by two employees as well as the plant manager to ensure our
permit conditions are met and'our environment is protected.

Crops Harvested 2008
During the month of April, the Winter Ryegrass was cut and baled and produced 60 bales.
During the month of July, a total of 40 bales were harvested.
During the month of September, a total of 160 bales were harvested.
The weight of the hay bales ranged between 1000lbs- 1200lbs.

fJ During the year 2008, we received.two"violations and they are listed below.
1. NOV - 2008 - PC - 0842 Failure to meet the Operation & Maintenance Standards
within Section II (4) Dec. 18, 2008
On 1219/08, two areas of runoff were observed by Joel Shields, NCDWQ
Compliance Inspector. As of the writing of this report, the
violation is still pending.
2. Administrative Order No. CWA - 04 -2009 - 4750 Violation of Section 301 (a)
and 402 of the CWA, 33 U.S.C. 1311 and 1342 12/22/08
On 5121/08, a potential discharge was observed from a land application
sprayfield operated by Aliens, Inc. This potential discharge
was documented by means of aerial photography. As of the
writing of this report, the violation is still pending.
