Ok, guys here’s my two cents…
The positives:
1.The stream section is a very small percentage of the total project,
2.It appears to have stable nick points above and below the length that had cut down,
3.There is a lot of veg on the banks, rooting depth will help as time goes on,
4.More than likely occurred because of a high pressure hydro year
The negatives:
1.The percent affected area of the reach is 16% (200 lf /1276 restored lf-did not include the EII footage)
2.The percent change in x-sectional area appears to be 20-25%
3.Result related to design issue (era of light touch) without much structure or pattern (although probably did not
have the space for pattern between the confluence of the two streams)
Will it get worse?
I don’t think so…
Should it be repaired?
I would not go in and repair…
Should Credit be removed?
I would say no…however, I would have to say that DMS should have acknowledged that this was a problem area and
something to watch
Should they be required to monitor?
Yes, they should do a couple of cross sections in this area now, and compare at the same point next year (if it shows its
growing they need to either repair or have credit taken away).
What would be metric for getting worse?- if it grows another 15%, time to act
Thanks,
Mac
