Hackett Town Rd.
Thank you so much for the assistance you've provided on this project. I believe that none of it would
have been done properly had I not contacted you. This will be my last e-mail to you as I can see that
you are finished with my concerns. As long as the ditches DRAIN, hopefully I won't have anymore
issues to be addressed.
My desire for the road to remain a pristine, natural, gravel road is "water under the
bridge". Ultimately, my inquires were to insure that the project - from start to finish - be done
correctly. Therefore, you are very correct in your statement that I have made several inquiries and
requested information throughout this project... and I'm glad that I did ...
Because I did challenge some of the activities and methods being used during construction, I was
subjected to threats, bullying, stalking and intimidation.
Because I did inquire, I found wetlands on our property that your Division Environmental Officer Mr.
Slaughter did not see.
Because I did inquire, the prison inmates had to wear vests so they could be identified as non-
standard workers on this road.
Because I did inquire, the contracted employes and the inmates actually had a port-of-john to use. I
hear that was the first time that they had access to private facilities on a job site like this project.
Because I did inquire, the DOT spitefully placed the port-a-john directly across my driveway on this
1.3 mile stretch of road.
Because I did inquire, I discovered less culverts were installed than were indicated on the original
road construction plan.
Because I did inquire, I discovered perched culvert pipes which are not acceptable construction
methods
Because I did inquire, the boulders that were dumped by the DOT into our pasture bottom were finally
removed so that we can begin the necessary regrowth to sustain cattle. (That, by the way, was not
going to be done until Spring 2016, according to Mr. Hamby).
Because I did inquire, guardrails and speed limit signage is being installed for traffic safety. That
would not have happened had I not contacted you.
Because I did inquire, I learned that public records like field inventory sheets were allegedly
"disposed of' for Wilkes County.
Correct road prioritizations are NOT occurring in Wilkes County. As a concerned citizen and taxpayer,
may I state for everyone:
1. Public Information containing statistical data that will ultimately impact government spending
should never be "disposed of'.
2. A documented field inventory (including accurate daily traffic counts) of identified roadways should
be conducted every four years and records kept on file. According to Mr. Tetzelaff in his e-mail dated
September 8, 2015, at 12:29:55 PM, Subject: Field Inventory Data / SR 1708 ( Wilkes County ), there
are NO current field inventories for Wilkes county since 2007.
Again, thank you for your help.
Happy Holidays.
