Charles/Caroline Per your email on 2/15/24, 1 am providing you with an update on the progress of the installation of the temporary water treatment system at the Buckeye Selma, NC terminal. A temporary carbon treatment system was mobilized to the site last week to process water from the impacted areas prior to combining with the existing NPDES discharge system. Upon discovery of the release, the discharge of water from the impacted area had been isolated from the rest of the NPDES system and the water has been staged in frac tanks prior to offsite disposal. The temporary treatment system will allow water from the impacted area to be processed through a series of bag filters for additional sediment removal prior to treatment of the water through two (2) sets of 2, 000-pound liquid granular activated carbon (LGAC) vessels in series and then pumped to the existing on -site retention basins prior to discharge to Outfall 001. Sampling of the system influent, mid -point, and effluent will be taken upon system startup and then weekly thereafter. Sampling of the outfall will continue on a monthly basis as required by the NPDES permit. Please let me know if you have any questions or require any additional information.
