FYI.
This project will finally proceed (with minor changes) since 2 of the end pipe joints have broken off..... Repair of the 8
feet of concrete pipe and construction of ~ 5 ft rock ladder instead of a dropbox....

Subject: Road Embankment Stablization, SR 1246 (Fairview Road), Iredell County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to stabilize an eroding road embankment at an existing 48"
RCP on SR 1246 (Fairview Road) in Iredell County. The 48" RCP will be extended 9 feet and a 5-ft x 6-ft dropbox will be
1
constructed at the outlet of the 48" RCP. A 10-ft HDPE pipe will extend from the base of the dropbox. Five feet of riprap
will be used around the outlet of the HDPE pipe for structure stabilization. The scope of work will result in additional 29
feet of permanent impacts to an unnamed tributary to Work Creek, which is classified as a WS-IV & B watershed by the
Division of Water Quality.
The project will not impact any T & E species or historical structures. No wetlands or high quality waters will be
impacted by this project. The project is located within 1/2 mile of the critical watershed area; however SR 1246 is not
considered a rural or urban arterial.
We intend to utilize a NW 3 (GC #3687), with no formal notification for the construction of the project. Please let me
know if you need additional information regarding this project. Attached are a map, sketches (Sheet 1 of attached file is
proposed, Sheet 2 is existing), and photos of the site.
Thank you,
Trish Simon
