RE: Collection System Permit No: WQCS00020
Notice of Violation,Tracking No.: NOV-2023-DV-0019
Dear Mr. Basinger:
The purpose of this correspondence is to respond to the Notice of Violation (Tracking No.: NOV-2023-DV-
0019) for the City of Hickory Collection System (Permit No. WQCS00020) that occurred December 13 & 27,
2022.
Incident#202201807 was the result of the 18"force main that split at the bell. The City of Hickory worked as
quickly as possible to repair the line and get the pump station back up and running. Septage haulers were
called in to keep the pump station pumped down while crews dug out and repaired the line. City of Hickory
staff and contractors worked quickly to ensure the sewer spill was kept to a minimum and cleaned up the
area where the sewer overflow occurred.
Incident #202201862 was the result of debris (grease and rags) that stopped up the line. The City of Hickory
worked as quickly as possible to jet the line, clear the blockage and clean up the overflow.
The City of Hickory feels that we worked as quickly as possible to eliminate these sewer overflows caused by
pipe failure and debris.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate contacting me at 828-323-7427.

Kenneth Pennell
