the circle in the Town of Atlantic Beach.

7. Size: There is no land available for any
expansion/upgrading of the facility.
8. Topography: The site is level. The elevation is
approximately 12' msl.
9. Location of nearest dwelling: There is an occupied dwelling
within 25 feet of the facility.
10. Receiving stream or affected surface waters: Bogue Sound

C. Describe receiving stream features and pertinent
downstream uses: Protected sound used for
shellfishing, body contact recreation, and fishing.
PART II - DESCRIPTION OF DISCHARGE AND TREATMENT WORKS

Backwash from a water conditioning unit at a potable
water treatment plant

4. Type of treatment: The facility will backwash into an
existing basin which will allow the discharge from the water
conditioning unit.

PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The discharge will consist of backwash from an ion exchange
water conditioner. The backwash will consist of a salt brine. It
is recommended a draft NPDES Permit be prepared and placed at
public notice. If no significant adverse public comment is
received, it is recommended NPDES Permit No. NC0044806 be
reissued for a five (5) year period.
