Sullins, Director Division of Water Quality December 10, 2007 Mrs. Patricia T. Davis Taylor Hospital & Extended Care PO Box 100 Sealevel, NC 28577 Subject: Discontinuance of Fecal Coliform Monitoring NPDES Permit NCO047759 Dear Mrs. Davis: On November 30, 2007 the US Environmental Protection Agency approved revisions to the North Carolina water quality standards included in 15A NCAC 2B .0200. These revisions included changes in the water quality standards for bacterial indicators in SB and SC waters. Fecal coliform is no longer included as a standard for waters classified as SC and SB. An enterococci standard replaces the fecal coliform standard for those waters. The requirements for fecal coliform in your NPDES permit specified that you had to monitor until this new rule became effective. Therefore, as of November 30, 2007, the fecal monitoring may be discontinued. However, you must continue to monitor for enterococci as indicated in your permit. This change requires no formal NPDES permit amendment, or any other actions at this time. If you have any questions please contact Teresa Rodriguez at phone number 919-733-5083, ext 553.
