SEWER SYSTEM
House Bill 1160,which the General Assembly enacted in July 1999, requires that municipalities,
animal operations, industries and others who operate waste handling systems provide a
summarized annual report to its customers and to the Department of Quality on the
performance of the wastewater treatment plant and the collections system over the past twelve
months.
In accordance with this regulation,the Lincoln County Sewer System is pleased to provide copies

Wastewater Collections System Description:
The Lincoln County Sewer Collections System consists of approximately 2,884 linear feet of 36" gravity
sanitary sewer lines; 2,814 linear feet of 30" gravity sanitary sewer lines; 15,599 linear feet of 24" gravity
sanitary sewer lines; 4,979 linear feet of 18" gravity sanitary sewer lines; 18,951 linear feet of 15" gravity
sewer lines; 12,884 linear feet of 12" gravity sewer lines;429,442 linear feet of 8"gravity sanitary sewer
lines; 5,146 linear feet of 20"force main; 39,969 linear feet of 12"force main; 14,836 linear feet of 10"
force main; 16,372 linear feet of 8"force main; 158,788 linear feet of 6"force main; 65,953 linear feet of
4" force main;4,546 linear feet of 3"force main; 1,032 linear feet of 2" force main; 4,224 linear feet of 6"
low pressure sewer lines; 43,143 linear feet of 4" low pressure sewer lines; 75,367 linear feet of 3" low
pressure sewer lines; 138,656 linear feet of 2.5" low pressure sewer lines; 51,671 linear feet of 2" low
pressure sewer lines; and 49 sewer pump stations serving approximately 8,730 customers.
The low pressure sewer system utilizes individually owned grinder pumps and small diameter
pressure lines to collect and convey sewage to the gravity sewer system. Flows from the low pressure and
gravity sewer systems are collected at the 49 strategically placed sewer pump stations and pumped via the
force mains to the outfall gravity sewer system to be deposited at the Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment
Facility (Permit#NC0088722) located at 7085 Old Plank Road, Stanley NC and the City of Lincolnton
Wastewater Treatment Facility (Permit#NC0025496) located at 550 West NC 150 Bypass, Lincolnton NC.

II. Performance:
The Lincoln County Sewer Collections System had the following reportable sanitary sewer
overflows (SSO's):
1. Date: January 24, 2023
Time: 8:00 am
Location: 3896 Rivendell Rd.
Denver, North Carolina
Incident: There was a failure in a sewer force main.The
incident was reported to NCDENR.
Spill Amount: 900 gallons
Impact: None detected.
Corrective Action: The line was repaired and excess sewage was pumped
out.
2. Date: April 9, 2023
Time: 9:20am
Location: 7533 S. Little Egypt Rd
Denver, North Carolina
Incident: Power failure and Generator malfunction at Lift
Station
Spill Amount: 9,000 gallons
Impact: None detected.
Corrective action: Generator was repaired and restored power, pumps
caught up and flow returned to normal.

Incident: Blockage in the gravity mainline.
Spill Amount: 1,600 gallons
Impact: None detected.
Corrective action: Blockage was removed allowing flow to return to
normal, excess sewage was cleaned up.
4. Date: November 13,2023
Time: 10:50am
Location: 7428 Mountain Ridge Dr.
Denver, North Carolina
Incident: Pump Station Failure
Spill Amount: 2,200 gallons
Impact: None detected.
Corrective action: Reset power to get station back online, once pumps
caught up flow returned to normal.

Killian creek is a 3.35 MGD facility with the following components:

• 2 Sequencing Batch Reactors with mixers, 4 blowers, diffused air and
sludge transfer pumps

II. Performance:
Killian Creek WWTP operated in compliance with our NPDES permit during the
calendar year of 2023. Compliance was reported on monthly Discharge
Monitoring Reports submitted to the North Carolina Division of Water Quality
during the year
Killian Creek WWTP had the following reported Notice of Violations (NOV)
1) February 111b 2023 The Fecal Coliform was out of Limits causing the WWTP to
be out of compliance for the week. A civil penalty was issued.
