Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) Your wastewater treatment system discharges treated effluent to an unnamed tributary to Jacob's Creek, which is classified as a Class C water and is located in the Roanoke River Basin. Class C waters are those protected for uses such as aquatic life propagation, survival and maintenance of biological integrity (including fishing and fish), wildlife, secondary contact recreation, and agriculture. Secondary contact recreation means wading, boating, other uses not involving human body contact with water, and activities involving human body contact with water where such activities take place on an infrequent, unorganized, or incidental basis. All annual permit fees have been paid as required. Your permit is in good standing. Mr. Boone noted that you had the septic tank pumped approximately 7 months ago. Please remember the tank should be pumped at minimum once every three to five years, depending on how many people live in the home. Mr. Boone also noted that you are using wastewater grade chlorine and that there were some tablets in the chlorinator at the time of the inspection. Mr. Boone also noted that you have not yet had the discharge tested by a NC certified laboratory as required by the permit. Please note that this is required at least once per year. Having the water tested indicates to us the condition of your treatment and how well it is treating the wastewater before it is discharged to the receiving stream. Finally, Mr. Boone noted your enthusiastic interest in replacing the discharging system with a traditional septic system. Please note, doing so would need to be done at your own expense. You would initiate this process by contacting the Rockingham County Health Department and arranging for an evaluation of your property for its suitabilty to accommodate a subsurface drain field (leach field). The Division is highly supportive of such efforts because it would eliminate a discharge permit which cause a pollutant load on Jacob's Creek.
