Description of Wastewater Treatment System
The Town of Waynesville owns and operates a wastewater treatment system consisting of a
wastewater collection system and one wastewater treatment plant. The wastewater collection
system consists of the sewer lines, pump stations, and all the related appurtenances required to
convey wastewater from the homes and businesses of customers to the wastewater treatment
plant for treatment. All of the wastewater transported by the collection system is treated at the,
located at 566 Walnut Trail Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785, prior to ultimate discharge into
receiving Richland Creek. This report summarizes the performances of the collection system and
Waynesville Collection Treatment Plant for the Calendar year 2021.

Wastewater Conveyance and Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO)
During the calendar year 2021, approximately millions of gallons of wastewater were conveyed
to Waynesville Wastewater Treatment Plant. Sanitary sewer overflows (SSO) totaling 100,500
gallons were reported to the NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The SSO gallons

Cause of the SSO: New construction of apartments on Plott Creek Road as well as some
remodeling of existing buildings in the area.
Corrective Actions Taken: Cut main sewer line, added new piping as well as new cleanout.
Known Environmental Impact of the SSO: None
