Dear Mr. Becker,
On September 15, 2023, Division of Water Resources staff Gary Hudson conducted a
routine compliance inspection at the Olde Beau WWTP. William Young was present during
the inspection. A review of the May 2023, and August 2023 eDMR were compared to
laboratory bench sheets. No discrepancies were noted. During the inspection, the following
violation and areas of concern were noted:
Violation: During the inspection it was noted that the flow meter had not been calibrated
since October 28, 2021. This is a violation of Part II, Section D, Paragraph 3 of the permit.
Areas of Concern: Upon examining the aeration basin the mixed liquor suspended solids
(MLSS) appeared to be extremely diluted. Mr. Young said that the settleability test was
around 200 SSV, and his MLSS handheld meter was reading 1200 mg/l. The influent flow
varies greatly from 1400 gallons per day to 23,000 gallons per day.
You are reminded that, pursuant to NC General Statute (NCGS) 143-215.6A, the NC Division
of Water Resources may assess civil penalties not to exceed $25,000 per day, per violation
against any individual who violates NCGS 143-215.1, or any permit issued pursuant to it.
