In accordance with thai regulation, the (ollov/ing public notice has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county: The Johnston County wastewater collection system had a discharge of untreated wastewater from the wastewater collection system in the vicin- ity of 680 County Home Road, Smithfield, NC. The untreated wastewater discharged was a combination of partially treated wastewater and fully treated reclaimed water with n total combined volume of approximately 237,600 gallons. The wastewater discharged into an unnamed tributary to Middle Creek in the Neuse River Basin. Ttie County was notified of the spill on September 21, 2023 at approximately 11:00 am al which time Ihe spill had stopped. The discharge was a result of a manhole overflow due to reclaimed water temporarily discharged into the wastewater collection system. The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on Sep- (ember 21. 2022. This notice was required by North Carolina General Statutes Article 21, Chapter 143.215C.
