UT to Coldwater Creek Mitigation Site, Cabarrus County, WBS # 34448.1.1, TIP No.
R-2533B, Action ID No. 199702364; DWQ Project No. 011274
Ms. Amschler:
As you are aware, the Department has monitored the UT to Coldwater Creek stream relocation
site since its construction in March of 2005. The UT to Coldwater Creek is located in Cabarrus
County, adjacent to northbound NC 49 at Sta. 164+00 to Sta. 166+00 -L1- RT.. This site
provides 718 linear feet of stream relocation for impacts associated with the R-2533B project.
The stream relocation was constructed and planted with the appropriate hardwood species. Per
permit requirements, NCDOT was required to monitor the stream mitigation site for channel
stability on an annual basis for five years or until success criteria were met.
During the monitoring period, annual monitoring reports were submitted to the appropriate
regulatory agencies via the PDEA Natural Environment Section (NES) website:
hs: //connect. ncdot.gov/resources/Environmental/Pages/Permits-and-Mitiation. aspx
After eight years of vegetation monitoring and five years of stream stability monitoring, the
to Coldwater Creek stream relocation indicates that the planted vegetation is surviving and
streambanks remain stable at this time. Individual annual monitoring reports are available
NES's website for 2007-2014.
