Ignacio Maya from Blythe Development attended as well. Project received approx 1 inch of rain in short time span on the night of July 13. The Y2 section (US 421/Bus 40) median from approx sta 23 - 38 is under active filling and grading operations. As the fill is being placed, the crews are maintaining Type C drop inlet protection and ditchline velocity control consisting of wattles and silt checks per EC plans. PAM applications are being made on the wattles per the specs. Slopes were recently walked in and compacted with berms and slope drains installed to manage the runoff from the top of the fill section. There were no failures of slope drains and berms. There was a large amount of site runoff and it is directed along the ditchline at the toe of the slope per plan. One small area of slope erosion from storm water coming off west bound 421/40 onto the top of the fill was noted. The ditchline showed evidence of the amount of runoff and had accumulated sediment in it behind the EC devices as intended. There were no failures of the drop inlet protection along this ditchline. The drop inlets all discharge into an existing pipe and the accumulated sediment at the outlet of the existing pipe was small inspite of the amount/duration of the rain and the phase of the work. We discussed with the contractor rewalking the fill slopes, cleaning out and refurbishing the EC devices in the ditchline and refurbishing the diversions to the slope drains on the top of the fill slope. The cleanup work on the diversions was already underway and additional wattles had been installed in the ditchline as well. The contractor was directed to finish out, permanent seed and mat the slopes and ditches from +/-Sta 35+50 to Sta 39 to stabilize it. Permanent soil reinforcement matting is recommended in this section to stabilize the ditch bottom. Finishing this area out will reduce the sediment load to structure 1002 and 1003. Also, permanent staged seeding of shoulders, ditch and fill slope is to be done along on the entire active section to help reduce the overall erosion potential. Seeding crews were scheduled to arrive yesterday. As soon as conditions allow, proceed with stabilization of the area slopes. E:i 7/15/2015 8:12 AM Page 1 of 2 The compacted slopes and installed EC devices prevented a large sediment loss as intended. Contractor has been quick to respond and make repairs. Site should be prepped and ground ground cover provided with permanent seeding, matting of ditchlines and slopes. Continue to apply PAM to the wattles along the ditchlines and maintain well compacted berms and diversions along the top of the fill. Discussions were held on using silt sack inserts on the drop inlets in the sag to help prevent ponding of water onto the 421/40 roadway. If ponding at the drop inlets becomes a safety issue, utilize a silt sack insert to allow runoff to get into the drop inlet box. The erodible area surrounding the specific drop inlets should be permanent seeded and matted as well in conjunction with use of the silt sack. Please contact me if this is needed. It is necessary for the contractor to maintain the silt checks with PAM application, wattles and the slope drain inpet protection as work continues in this area. 7/15/2015 8:12 AM Page 2 of 2
