The purpose of the evaluation was to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in Permit WQ0028785. Darrell Covington, ORC, was present during the inspection. This 35,400 GPD wastewater treatment plant is a subsurface system consisting of 3 septic tanks and 4 Envirofilter tanks, along with a NxClear unit for denitrification and suspended solids removal. Disposal includes a 20,160 GPD high -rate infiltration system and a 15,240 GPD subsurface disposal system, Permit 487039, issued and monitored by the Pender County Health Department. The facility is currently using both disposal options. The installation of the Siemens Simatic HMI controller system has allowed effective operations and monitoring of the plant on -site as well as remotely. The facility has a consultant for the system that works with the operator when needed. Lewis Farms is contracted to remove the top scum layer of the septic tanks yearly and the solids every other year. The facility operator designations need to be updated for both wastewater and spray irrigation certfication types, as well as owner affiliation. Please use the Change of Name/Ownership form and the Operator Designation form found on www.deq.nc.gov under Water Resources Division. The facility needs a field lab certification for pH reporting. To apply for certification, please use the same website information above for instructions. The facility is compliant with the Non -Discharge Permit WQ0028785. Please review the comment sections of the inspection report for more details. The cells are air scoured and backwashed once a day to the mudwell which is pumped back to the influent pump station. During the summer months, when flows are higher, both cells are in operation and in the winter months the cells are alternated. The composite sample is taken at the NxClear effluent, before UV treatment. The sampler was in good condition with clean tubing.
