Director Town of Pilot Mountain Attn: Michael Boaz, Town Manager 124 West Main Street Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality May 30, 2023 SUBJECT: Compliance Evaluation Inspection Pilot Mountain Water Treatment Plant NPDES Permit #: NCO068365 Surry County On May 22nd, 2023, Division of Water Resources staff, Ron Boone, conducted a routine compliance inspection at the Pilot Mountain water treatment plant. Kent Scott, operator in responsible charge, was present during the inspection. A review of the facility was conducted and showed compliance with the subject permit. This plant ceased operations and discharge on February 16, 2023. The town has begun purchasing its water and will decommission this plant and request the permit to be rescinded. Mr. Scott stated that all the plant's tanks have been emptied of all contents and showed Mr. Boone where he intends to permanently close the plant's effluent line. The discharge vault on the discharge end of the waste lagoon will be filled with concrete to a level that will completely cover the discharge pipe, thereby preventing any further discharge. Completing this will satisfy all requirements for plant decommissioning and permit rescission.
