As directed by Part D., Section D-5 of the stormwater permit (NCS000571), a notification is required to the Mooresville
Regional Office of the sample result that entered into Tier One status. Stormwater sample results were received on
5/18/2023 for the stormwater sampling event on 4/26/2023 and 4/27/2023. Tier One status was triggered for Copper
at SW011 during this storm event.
Tier Two status was triggered for Total Suspended Solids and Mercury at Outfall SW011. The attached letter was mailed
to the Mooresville Regional Office as directed by Part D-6 of the stormwater permit on 5/31/2023.
A site investigation has been completed. Total Suspended Solids at stormwater outfalls SWO11 and SWO16-42 are
associated with the hauling of ash from the ash basin to the onsite landfill. Additional BMP have been installed and
steps to minimize wheel track out have been implemented. The site is evaluating adding a flocculant to the
sediment basins and sediment traps along side the haul road. It is assumed that the high Total Suspended Solids
caused the copper and mercury to be over the bench marks at these outfalls.
Qualitative and Quantitative monitoring will be conducted monthly at Outfall SW001, SW011 and SWO16-42 until three
consecutive samples results are below the benchmark values.
