The self-reported Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) 5-Day Report submitted by City of Claremont indicates violations
of permit conditions stipulated in the subject permit and North Carolina G.S. 143-215.1. Violations include failing to
effectively manage, maintain, and operate the subject collection system so that there is no SSO to the land or
surface waters and making an outlet to waters of the State for purposes of G.S. 143-215.1(a)(1), for which a
permit is required.

Notice of Violation, Tracking No.: NOV-2023-DV-0164
Dear Mr. Pitner:
The purpose of this correspondence is to respond to the Notice of Violation (Tracking No.: NOV-
2023-DV-0164) for the City of Claremont Collection System (Permit No. WQCS00221) that
occurred March 2, 2023
Incident#202300458 was the result of grease causing a blockage in an 8" sewer line. The City of
Claremont crews jetted the 8" sewer line until the blockage was clear. After the spill was stopped
the crews worked to clean up the area of the spill of all debris and put out lime to neutralize the
spill.
The City of Claremont feels that we worked as quickly as possible to eliminate this sewer overflow
caused by a blockage of grease in an 8" sewer line.
