N[VVR[ and USF&VVS have a ton of that data onthat reach and on the Cape Fear Shiner. Here is a very quick review -- Success criteria should include: 1. Comparing the fish community post-removal in the soon-to-be free-flowing section of the Rocky River to the fish community in the Rocky River at the N[9O2 bridge in Chatham County. Data from the N[9O2 site can be found at . My data file from Bear Creek, atributary, is attached. My site on the Rocky River is way too far upstream tobeuseful. 2. Another criteria they should use is the range expansion of the Cape Fear Shiner back into its historical reaches of the river and into upstream tributaries such as Tick, Harlands, and Landrum creeks. 3. They should also look at spawning runs of suckers (Family Catostomidae) back up into the restored reaches. 4. They should also look at range expansion of the Carolina Redhorse (a state threatened species) back up into the restore reaches. 5. They should also address the negative consequences of removing the dam that could potentially include the range expansion of the nonincligenous Flathead Catfish up into reaches where it is not currently found and the species impact on indigenous sunfish and bullheads. 6. They should also look at upstream range expansion by the American Eel. What is semi-annual monitoring — twice a year or every other year? They should also using bp e|ectrofshing in the river. It is difficult to seine and bp e|ectrofshingvvou|d be more effective than seining. Looks like somebodyvvantstopuUoutadamandvvanttoknowvvhatthe"norma|"aquaticcommunity|ooks|ike. Thanks, Larry From: Baker Virginia Sent: Friday, May 22, 2015 2:02 PM To: Eaton, Larry Subject: FVV: Hoosier Dam removal - baseline data collection proposal Hey Larry, | received a baseline monitoring methodology for the Hoosier Bank mitigation project (20130412). It is along the Rocky River 35.63560, -79.21125. 1 wanted to see if we had any fish or aquatic macroinvertebrate data from that location or within the vicinity to make sure the provider reviews for their baseline data. They referred to NHP data and other biological databases as their reference data. FVVSand VVR[vvi|| be reviewing these methods carefully as they asked for the baseline data so | don't think | need to ask Brynn to look atthis. They will be using the SOP for collecting Benthic Macroinverts, Qual 4 method where applicable. This is the Catena group, have you heard of them? Do we need to be concerned with staff training for the methodology? Any thoughts would beappreciated. We are requesting your review and any comments you may have on this document by June 1. As a reminder of where things stand with this project, last summer you reviewed a Draft Monitoring Plan and we discussed this and other items in the July 2014 IRT meeting. USFWS and WRC subsequently provided comment on this document. The attached baseline data collection proposal is based on that document (2014 Draft Monitoring Plan) and incorporates the comments we received from USFWS and WRC. The performance standards for this project, and specific post - project monitoring criteria, will be developed later this summer. They will be informed by the baseline data we collect and further discussion with the IRT. Also, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that I will be moving to California in June. My contact information will remain the same and I will continue to oversee the development of this project on behalf of the project sponsor. John Hutton and Wildlands Engineering remain the lead on design and development of the Mitigation Plan. Thank you in advance for your review of this baseline data collection proposal and we look forward to receiving any comment you may have by June 1. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any clarifying questions. Lynnette Lynnette Batt Unique Places 919.599.3549 (cell) Ibatt @uniqueplacesllc.com uniqueplacesllc.com
