The facility has been receiving a lot of precipitation over the past year. The 2022/23 semi-annual well sampling reports are displaying increased nitrate concentrations. Increased preecipitation may be a part of the explanantion for the observation of elevated nitrates being measured in wells. Most of the wells are located downgradient of the monofill. It is possible that the biosolids are becoming mobile through the soils. Material is continuing to removed from the monofill. The removal of the material from the monofill may also be a contributor to the increasing nitrate presence in the monitoring wells. The monitor wells that are displaying increased nitrate presence are also reporting elevated TDS values. The permittee has contracted a consultant to aid with aseessment of the increased nitrate concentrations in the wells. The MRO would like to have the consultant present trend data for the increase of nitrates. The consultant should also make recommendations regarding the replacement or addition of monitor wells to the monofill. Additionally, the MRO would like future Annnual Reports to include information presented in text and graphically on what areas of the monofill have had all residual material completely removed, what areas areas of the monofill are being worked of for material removal, and an estimate of how much material remains in the monofill. Most of the elevated nitrates are in the downgradient wells surrounding the monofill. The monofill has material removed from it every year during the Winter months to advance the cleanout of the monofill. Page 3 of 3
