Subject: Request for a NWP 3 and 401 Water Quality Certification for the replacement of
Bridge #6 over Moyock Run on SR 1228 (Camellia Road) in Currituck County.
WBS # 17SP.1.R.69
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a
Nationwide Permit 3 and corresponding 401 Water Quality Certification for the replacement of
Bridge #6 in Currituck County. The bridge is located on SR 1228 approximately 016 miles east
of the intersection of SR 1227 and spans Moyock Run. The stream is classified by NCDWR as
class C;Sw waters. Bridge #6 is currently a 2-span concrete structure on timber piles; OAL = 60'.
This sh•ucture will be removed using NCDOT's guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed
bridge will be placed on its existing alignment. The new bridge structure will be a 2-span
concrete cored slab bridge; 90' long by 30' wide. Jurisdictional wetland impacts have been
minimized, resulting in <0.01 acres of permanent wetland impact. An off-site detour will be
utilized during construction. This bridge is following the Low Impact Bridge Process established
by FHWA, NCDOT, and Regulatory Agencies.
