Snider, Assistant Regional Supervisor Water Quality Regional Operations 450 West Hanes Mill Road, Suite 300 Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105 Dear Mr. Snider, NC 00PAr @nt lnvironPm vt tV APR 18 2022 Winston-Salem Regional Office This letter is in response to the Notice of Violation and Recommendation for Enforcement Letter dated March 24, 2022 received by the City of Greensboro. The address where the violation occurred and the amount spilled is shown below: 1. 2309 Baytree Drive 60,000 Gallons The sanitary sewer release at 2309 Baytree Drive on January 2, 2022, was due to pump station failure at this address. A lift station maintenance on -call crew was dispatched to the station once it was discovered to be inoperable. Grease had accumulated on the float system that operates the station and prevented it from proper operation. Once the floats were cleaned, we pumped all the accumulated grease out of the wet well with a combination cleaning truck to avoid any other disruptions in the station's operation. The station cleaning cycle has also been increased to prevent future grease accumulation on the floats. Remediation efforts include opening fire hydrants to flush the affected area, and we spread lime to minimize the spill's impact. It is our duty to comply with the requirements of Collection System Permit Number WQCS00006 and G.S. 143-215.1(a)(1), and we will continue to address unforeseen circumstances as quickly as they occur. If any additional information is required, please do contact me. We appreciate your review and welcome your feedback.
