Hanes Mill Road, Suite 300 Regional SaleOffice Winston-Salem, NC 27105 Re: Sanitary Sewer Overflow Civil Penalties Incident #202200551 Dear Mr. Snider: This letter serves as the official response from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities to the Notice of Intent to Enforce Civil Penalty for the sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) Incident #202200551 caused by debris in the line. On April 1 at 11:10 a.m. an SSO occurred behind 4440 Rocklane Drive in Walkertown. Our first responders determined that wipes had caused the overflow. A high-pressure nozzle was deployed to cut through the debris that caused the blockage and normal flow was restored at 7:30 p.m. that night. The area was cleaned following standard protocol and a diffuser was deployed for eight hours. Upstream and downstream mains were cleaned and inspected by CCTV with no visual defects observed. As is our standard proactive practice, Can the Grease and No Wipes in Pipes literature was also distributed to customers near the spill site. Our No Wipes in Pipes outreach educates the public on proper disposal of all wipes. cityofws.org/nowipes WSFC Utilities continues to make progress in minimizing SSOs and has the proper programs in place to maintain our high level of performance. Since the start of the Collection System Improvement Program in 2016, we have cleaned 58% of our system, which is more than 1,000 miles of pipe. We are well positioned to exceed our goal of cleaning the entire system by 2026. I hope this information is helpful with your investigation of Incident #202200551.
