County of Brunswick - Hood Creek WTP
Alum Sludge Treatment Facilities
Brunswick County
Dear Mr. Carter:
A letter of request for Authorization to Construct was received November 22,
1983, by the Division and final plans and specifications for the subject project
have been reviewed and found to be satisfactory. Authorization is hereby granted
for the construction of an alum sludge treatment facility consisting of a 1.6 M
gallon capacity sludge equalization tank with dual 1,200 GPM pumps, a 0.4 M gallon
sludge thickner with mechanical sludge sweeper and dual 400 GPM sludge transfer
pumps, twelve (12) 800 square feet vacuum assisted sludge drying beds with six (6)
vacuum blowers and 75 GPM filtrate pumps and polymer addition facilities including
metering pumps, mixing tanks, etc., a 850 GPM recirculation pump station with dual
pumps, effluent overflow, and effluent flow meter/recorder. and associated piping,
valving and appurtenances to serve the Hood Creek Water Treatment Plant in Brunswick
County.
This Authorization to Construct is issued in accordance with Part III paragraph
C of NPDES Permit No. NCO057533 issued February 7, 1984, and shall be subject to
revocation unless the wastewater treatment facilities are constructed in accordance
with the conditions and limitations specified in Permit No. NC0057533.
The Permittee must employ a certified wastewater operator in accordance with
Part III paragraph D of the reference permit.
The sludge generated from these treatment facilities must be disposed of in
accordance with G.S. 143-215.1 and in a manner approvable by the North Carolina
Division of Environmental Management.
In event the facilities fail to perform satisfactorily in meeting it's NPDES
permit effluent limits, the County of Brunswick shall take such immediate corrective
action as may be required by this Division, including the construction of additional
wastewater treatment and disposal facilities.
