ABSTRACT
The proposed action is the construction of a controlled-access toll road extending from I-85
west of Gastonia in Gaston County to I-485 in Mecklenburg County, a distance of
approximately 22 miles. This report documents the need for transportation improvements
within southern Gaston County and between southern Gaston County and western
Mecklenburg County. This report describes the planning process, including public and
agency coordination, leading to the selection of the Detailed Study Alternatives. Twelve
Detailed Study Alternatives are being considered. A Recommended Alternative is identified.
Existing and projected conditions in the project study area are described. The potential
direct, indirect, and cumulative impacts of the Detailed Study Alternatives are assessed,
including socioeconomics, community resources, cultural resources, natural resources,
environmental quality, and costs.
