Trane Technologies - Trane Charlotte Remanufacturing
Dear Carrie Nguyen:
On February 1, 2023, Julianna Hawley of Charlotte -Mecklenburg Storm Water Services
(CMSWS) conducted an inspection of the above referenced facility as a requirement of the City
of Charlotte's NPDES Permit, NCS000240, Part II, Section H. Inspection authority is granted by
Charlotte City Code Chapter 18, Article III, Section 18-82. At the time of inspection, the facility
was observed to be in compliance with the City of Charlotte Storm Water Pollution Control
Ordinance.
The inspection was also conducted as part of a cooperative working agreement between
Mecklenburg County and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) —
Division of Energy, Mineral and Land Resources (DEMLR). NCDEQ — DEMLR has been copied
on this report and made aware of the following observations regarding the facility's NPDES
stormwater permit:
1) Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) has been developed, recorded, and
implemented.
2) Qualitative Monitoring
Qualitative monitoring has been conducted and recorded.
3) Analytical Monitoring
Analytical monitoring has been conducted and recorded.

Facility Description: The Trane Charlotte Remanufacturing facility is located at 4500 Morris Field Drive on approximately
21.5 acres. The facility re -manufactures commercial air conditioner compressors and provides rental equipment to
commercial facilities. 7
File Review/History: Charlotte -Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) previously conducted an inspection of this
facility on 9/16/2017, and the report was issued as satisfactory.
Inspection Summary: The facility was observed to be in compliance with the City of Charlotte Storm Water Pollution
Control Ordinance at the time of the inspection. Please refer to the report for recommendations and comments.

Recommendation
The detention basin SCM at the front of the property was

tank were observed to be stored outdoors within secondary

containment. According to facility personnel, any
contents
accumulated stormwater is pumped to the pre-treatment
system. Several other ASTs, including materials used for
production, were observed indoors throughout the facility
within containment pits that can also be pumped into and
processed by the pre-treatment system. No stormwater
pollution issues were observed.

Generators and commercial air conditioners were observed to
be stored outdoors. There are several 275-gallon totes of
coolant and cleaning chemicals that were observed to be
covered and stored in a manner that would result in any spills
or leaks conveying into the pre-treatment system. No
stormwater pollution issues were observed.

Three outdoor machine maintenance bays and one wash bay
were observed to be covered. The areas drain to the onsite
pre-treatment system. No stormwater pollution issues were
observed.

Fueling occurs at the ASTs. Maintenance of compressors
maintenance, washing, storage, etc.

maintenance areas outdoors. Washing occurs at the covered
wash bay. Berms were observed at the covered areas so
that materials drain into the pre-treatment system and do not
enter the stormwater system. Vehicles were observed to be
stored indoors and outdoors. No stormwater pollution issues
were observed.
