On October 14, 2015, Mike Mickey of this office met with you, Matt Tucker and James
Cooper to perform a General Wastewater Permit Inspection at the Cone Denim facility located on
Fairview Street. The discharges were found to be compliant with the permit. The inspection
findings are detailed below.
I. Permit
The General Permit expired on July 31, 2015. The Division is currently in the process of renewing
the permit. A new Certificate of Coverage will be mailed to you in the near future.
II. Facility Site Review
Cone Denim has the ability to discharge of the following types of wastewater covered under this
permit: non -contact cooling water, chiller system, air washers and boiler blowdown. Typically,
during normal operations, the majority of the above wastewater is routed to the pretreatment system
for discharge to the City of Greensboro POTW.
111. Records/Reports
Part I (A) of the permit establishes a semi-annual monitoring frequency. Cone Denim had excellent
records documenting the required sampling. Data was reviewed for the last two monitoring events
that occurred on June 23, 2015 and December 16, 2014. All parameters were within the established
permit limits. There are no standardized discharge monitoring forms that have to be submitted.
Records simply must be maintained at the facility for a period of three years.
IV. Effluent/Receiving Waters
The facility has two outfalls. Flow at outfall 005 is measured using a rectangular weir and flow at
outfall 006 is estimated using a bucket and stopwatch. The discharge at each outfall was observed
to be clear. The wastewater eventually reaches North Buffalo Creek, class "WS-V; NSW" waters in
the Cape Fear River Basin.
