I called them on the 12th to see how the transfer went/was going. They said that, at that point, it had
gone better than they expected, minus a few minor problems. I called again this morning and spoke to
the ORC, Misty Conder. She said that the bugs dipped in number a little upon transfer to the new
oxidation ditches from the aeration basins, but are holding steady. The grit chamber and disk filter keep
stopping, and foam has become an issue where it wasn't before (more aeration now)... nothing major so
far, all things they are working on.
All of their samples are being shipped off to allow more hands on deck at this point, so no numbers are
available yet, except for fecal coliform, which have been fine.
I agree with Steve... let's see how the upgrades effect things first.

This is a 3/7/2008 response from Thomasville:
Dear Jenifer,
I wanted to update you on a change to the plant transfer plans. Due to some concerns about weather
conditions we have made a modification of our original plan in order to maximize our ability to
complete the transfer during dry weather. We will still start transferring from our aeration basins
into the new oxidation ditch on Tuesday March 11, but we will also be performing the bypass of our
Northside main influent a little later on that same day. This will allow for the final sewer line
connections to be made into the new headworks. We will plan to do the connection on the
Southside line at about 2:00 AM on Wednesday, March 12. This is a period of very low flow at the
East Davidson pump station and we believe we can pump that station down completely and have 1.5
- 2 hours before it will need pumping again. The estimated tie in time to the new headworks is less
than an hour for the southside line. This change will aid State Utilitites in completing the remainder
of the connections that must also be made such as in plant sanitary sewer, belt press and

There is a new person reviewing Watch List facilties at Region IV; that person may want to hit
Thomasville with the 308/309 hammer.
If anything has changed recently, let me know - and copy Tom Belnick as well. Tom's our
point -of -contact with EPA on Watch List issues.
