Apparently, the check valve froze during the night and broke off from the line. Approximately five thousand (5,000) gallons of egg had been released from our storage tanks, and the material flowed through our parking lot and subsequently made it onto our neighbor's property which is owned by Harnett County. The accidental discharge did not contain any pollutants other than egg residue. Due to the extremely low temperature, the spilled material froze in the nearby stormwater ditch and did not enter any body of water. We immediately hired Boyer Enterprises East for the spill cleanup. They contained the further flow of the spilled material with booms and started vacuuming up the material using a vac truck. We know that 5,234 gallons have been recovered. Since the recovered volume may contain standing water that was already in the stormwater ditch the final recovery volume may exceed the quantity initially released. We also flushed the ripraps on our property while vacuuming to clean any residue to prevent any future stormwater contamination. All recovered material was sent to Brooks Contractor & Compost located In Goldston, NC. We contacted a representative of the neighboring property owner, Mr. Drew Bryant and Mr. Carl Davis with the Harnett County Parks Department, and both were comfortable with our remediation action. i was told it was not going to be necessary for them to come out and inspect the condition of their property after the cleanup effort was completed. Harnett County gave us the approval to continue cleaning up on their property. With the cleanup completed, we will continue to observe our stormwater discharge during the next significant rainfall(s) and evaluate if any additional cleanup effort will be necessary. Please contact me at blawson@isonovatech.com or (803) 687-1504 or if you wish to observe the impacted area or have any questions. Thank you.
