1. EXISTING UTILITIES AND UTILITY LOCATIONS SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE LOCATIONS
OF ALL UTILITIES BEFORE BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION BY CONTACTING "811" (1-800-632-4949). SHOULD ADJUSTMENTS
OF PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS BE NECESSARY TO AVOID EXISTING UTILITIES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE SUCH
ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH THE WORK. ANY DAMAGE TO UTILITIES INCURRED DURING
CONSTRUCTION IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR AND IS TO BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL, INSPECT, AND MAINTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES CONTINUOUSLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH
NCDOT ROADWAY STANDARD DRAWINGS, THE MUTCD, THE NCDOT SUPPLEMENT TO THE MUTCD, AND THE TOWN OF CARY
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES MUST BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO BEGINNING ANY CONSTRUCTION
OPERATIONS.
3. QUALIFIED AND TRAINED WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL SUPERVISORS WILL BE REQUIRED. ALL FLAGGING OPERATIONS
WILL REQUIRE QUALIFIED AND TRAINED WORK ZONE FLAGGERS. CONTRACTOR MAY CONTACT

4. ALL MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF THE TOWN OF CARY
AND/OR NCDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS AND STRUCTURES AND NCDOT ROADWAY STANDARD DRAWINGS.
5. ANY MONUMENTATION DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED BY THE CONTRACTOR IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. CONTACT ROBIN J. MURRAY, PLS, TOWN OF CARY AT (919) 906-9571 BEFORE
DISTURBING ANY MONUMENTATION.
6. MINIMUM SEPARATIONS BETWEEN EXISTING AND PROPOSED UTILITIES SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED IN THE TOWN OF CARY
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. IF UTILITY SEPARATION CONFLICTS OCCUR DURING CONSTRUCTION THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
COORDINATE REQUIRED ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH WORK THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
WORK AROUND EXISTING UTILITIES.
7. POSITIVE DRAINAGE SHALL BE PROVIDED ON ALL GRADED AREAS, ESPECIALLY AREAS TO BE PAVED, THROUGH OUT
CONSTRUCTION. PROPOSED CURB & GUTTER AND PROPOSED SIDEWALKS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO ENSURE POSITIVE
DRAINAGE.
8. WHEN CONSTRUCTION MUST TAKE PLACE IN PAVED AREAS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SAW CUT THE PAVEMENT PRIOR TO
REMOVAL TO PROVIDE A CLEAN JOINT FOR THE PAVEMENT PATCH. ALL PAVEMENT REPAIR SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE
WITH TOWN OF CARY STANDARDS. THE FINAL PAVEMENT REPAIR SHALL PROVIDE A SMOOTH RIDE. NO DIRECT PAYMENT
FOR SAWCUTTING WILL BE MADE.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SAWCUT WHERE NOTED IN THE PLANS AND WHERE EXISTING CURB & GUTTER IS TO BE
REMOVED AND/OR MODIFIED. THERE IS NO DIRECT COMPENSATION FOR SAWCUTTING. THE WORK REQUIRED FOR
SAWCUTTING SHALL BE INCIDENTAL TO OTHER LINE ITEMS
10. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING AND REPLACING STREET SIGNS, MAILBOXES, AND OTHER
RELATED ITEMS. ALL ITEMS SHALL BE REPLACED IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION AND LOCATION (UNLESS OTHERWISE
NOTED). NO DIRECT PAYMENT SHALL BE MADE FOR SUCH RELOCATIONS UNLESS NOTED IN THE PROJECT MANUAL
11. ALL DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE STABILIZED IMMEDIATELY AFTER CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED. ALL BARE AND
DISTURBED AREAS MUST HAVE A SUFFICIENT STAND OF VEGETATION. CONTRACTOR SHALL ADDRESS ANY EROSION ISSUE
THAT MAY ARISE DURING TIME OF CONSTRUCTION AND MONITOR THE AREAS AS NEEDED.
12. THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT, AND OPERATION OF THE EXISTING VALVES AND FIRE HYDRANTS SHALL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE TOWN OF CARY POLICY STATEMENT ENTITLED "CONTROL OF OPERATING WATER VALVES AND
HYDRANTS."
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL SILT FENCE AT THE BOTTOM OF EVERY CUT/FILL SLOPE, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER
OR INSPECTOR, TO PREVENT SILTATION OFF THE PROJECT LIMITS.
14. ANY DEVIATION OF SIDEWALK LOCATION FROM THE PLANS SHALL FIRST BE APPROVED BY THE PROJECT ENGINEER.
15. ROADWAY RIGHT OF WAY LINE, TEMPORARY EASEMENT (TCE) OR SIDEWALK EASEMENTS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE LIMITS OF
CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR TO REMAIN WITHIN ROADWAY RIGHT OF WAY OR SIDEWALK EASEMENT AT ALL TIMES. ANY
DAMAGE TO ADJACENT PROPERTY CAUSED BY CONTRACTOR SHALL BE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR OR
REPLACE TO ORIGINAL OR SUPERIOR CONDITION.
16. CURB RAMP LOCATIONS ON PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY. CURB RAMPS SHALL BE LOCATED AND CONSTRUCTED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE TOWN OF CARY AND NCDOT STANDARDS AFTER THE LOCATION OF THE PROPOSED STOP BAR
AND/OR PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALKS HAVE BEEN STAKED OUT.

17. PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION AROUND SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT TOWN OF CARY
PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES DEPARTMENT AT (919) 337-5692 AND (919) 460-4090 TO FIELD LOCATE ANY TRAFFIC
SIGNAL CONFLICTS AT EACH INTERSECTION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OF ANY POTENTIAL CONFLICT
PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
18. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF ANY ENCROACHMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE NCDOT AND
THE TOWN OF CARY. ENCROACHMENT AGREEMENT PROVISIONS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SECTION 21000 OF THE PROJECT
MANUAL.
19. ANY CONSTRUCTION WITHIN TEN (10) FEET OF A TRAVEL LANE ON ANY STREET SHALL BE RESTRICTED TO THE HOURS OF
9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT CLOSE OR NARROW A LANE OF TRAFFIC ON ANY ROADWAY DURING
THE FOLLOWING TIME RESTRICTIONS: 6:00 AM TO 9:00 AM AND 4:00 PM TO 7:00 PM, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, AND
ALL TIMES SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
20. SIDEWALK CLOSURES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 6D OF THE MUTCD. LANE AND ROAD CLOSURES SHALL BE
IN ACCORDANCE WITH DIVISION 11 OF THE 2018 NCDOT ROADWAY STANDARD DRAWINGS.
21. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ALL TYPE II AND TYPE III BARRICADES WITH MOUNTED SIGNAGE AND ANY TEMPORARY WORK
ZONE SIGNS FOR EXISTING SIDEWALK CLOSURES TO PERFORM WORK. ONSITE AND OFFSITE PEDESTRIAN DETOURS SHALL BE
INSTALLED ACCORDING TO PART 6 OF THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF THE MANUAL OF UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
DEVICES (MUTCD) REFER TO SECTION 21000 SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION SECTION OF THE PROTECT MANUAL.
22. SIDEWALK CROSS SLOPE SHALL NOT EXCEED 1/4 INCH PER FOOT.
23. SIGNS AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS SHALL CONFORM TO NCDOT AND THE MANUAL OF UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES.
COORDINATE WITH ENGINEER TO GET APPROVAL FROM NCDOT DISTRICT OFFICE FOR PRE -MARKINGS PRIOR TO PLACING
THERMOPLASTIC PAVEMENT MARKINGS.
24. INSTALL ALL TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES ACCORDING TO NCDOT ROADWAY STANDARD DETAIL 1101.02 ON ALL ROADS. AT
THE END OF EACH WORKDAY RESTORE TRAFFIC ON ALL ROADWAYS TO THE EXISTING PATTERNS. REFER TO THE
ENCROACHMENT AGREEMENT(S) IN SECTION 21000 - APPENDIX FOR LOCAL REQUIREMENTS ON NCDOT MAINTAINED
ROADWAYS.
25. ANY ABANDONED STORM DRAINAGE PIPE, DRIVEWAY PIPE, SEWER LINE, FORCE MAIN, MONITORING WELLS AND ASSOCIATED
STRUCTURES SHALL BE REMOVED. CONTACT NCDOT DISTRICT OFFICE AT (919) 733-3213 PRIOR TO STARTING REMOVAL.
26. USE ONLY NCDOT APPROVED DESIGN FOR TRAFFIC BEARING HS-20 LOADING FOR ALL DRAINAGE STRUCTURES. ALL
FRAMES, GRATES, RINGS, COVERS, ETC. ARE TO BE MANUFACTURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION
106 16 'DOMESTIC STEEL'. FOREIGN CASTINGS ARE NOT APPROVED FOR USE.
27. CURB AND GUTTER SHALL BE REMOVED IN FULL SECTIONS AT EXISTING JOINTS. A COMPACTED BASE SHALL BE PREPARED
PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF CURB AND GUTTER; CONSISTING OF A MINIMUM 6 INCHES OF AGGREGATE BASE COURSE OR A
MINIMUM 4 INCHES OF ASPHALT CONCRETE BASE COURSE, TYPE 625.06. PLACEMENT AND COMPACTION SHALL ADHERE
TO NCDOT STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS.
28. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH THE ENGINEER AND CONTACT MONTY BROWN AT THE DISTRICT ENGINEER'S
OFFICE AT (919) 733-3213 FOR INSPECTION OF FORMS OR GRADE LINE PRIOR TO PLACING CONCRETE FOR CURB AND
GUTTER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE 24 HOURS NOTIFICATION FOR INSPECTIONS. ALL HOODS, FRAMES AND GRATES
INTENDED FOR USE SHALL BE ONSITE FOR THE INSPECTION.
29. IF THERE ARE EXISTING PAVEMENT FAILURES, CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH ENGINEER AND CONTACT DISTRICT
OFFICE AT (919) 733-3213 TO MARK THE EXISTING PAVEMENT FAILURES PRIOR TO ASPHALT OVERLAY.
30. THE ADDITION/REPLACEMENT OF CURB AND GUTTER NEXT TO AN EXISTING ASPHALT ROADWAY SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED
AS FOLLOWS:
A. THE EDGES OF THE EXISTING ASPHALT SHALL BE SAW -CUT TO PROVIDE A STRAIGHT AND UNIFORM EDGE FOR
CONCRETE TO BE PLACED ALONG.
B. MILL A MINIMUM 1.5-INCH BY 1.5-FOOT SECTION AT THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT ALONG THE PROPOSED CURB AND
GUTTER.
C. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL USE AN APPROPRIATE METHOD TO PROVIDE A STRAIGHT, UNIFORM FRONT EDGE OF CONCRETE
WHERE TYING TO THE ULTIMATE TOP OF PAVEMENT. THIS OFFICE RECOMMENDS USING A 2X4 LAID FLAT ALONG THE
MILLED SURFACE AT THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT. CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED PER NCDOT
STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS.
D. ONCE THE CONCRETE IS POURED AND SET, A MINIMUM 1.5-INCH LIFT OF SURFACE ASPHALT, TYPE S9.5C, SHALL BE
PLACED IN THE MILLED SECTION. IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO ENSURE THAT THE
PROPOSED CURB AND GUTTER IS PLACED AT THE CORRECT HEIGHT TO PROVIDE PROPER DRAINAGE IN ADDITION TO A
SMOOTH TIE-IN ONCE ASPHALT IS PLACED. ADDITIONAL MILLING MAY BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR ANY DAMAGES DONE TO
THE EXISTING ASPHALT DURING CONSTRUCTION.

31. TRENCH WALL TO THE PAVEMENT SURFACE. ACTIVE EXCAVATION SHORING, SUCH AS SHEET PILING, SHALL BE INSTALLED.
THE DESIGN OF THE SHORING SHALL INCLUDE THE EFFECTS OF TRAFFIC LOADS. THE SHORING SYSTEM SHALL BE

ATTACHMENTS, SHALL BE MADE PRIOR TO PAVING THE AREA TO BE WIDENED/OVERLAID.
33. ALL PROPOSED SIGNS SHALL BE IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE MUTCD, INCLUDING VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL CLEARANCES.
34. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING THE RIGHT-OF-WAY.
35. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE PUBLIC, INCLUDING ALL ADJACENT PROPERTY OWNERS AND BUSINESSES, A MINIMUM
OF 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK.
36. ALL MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NCDOT STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS, INCLUDING
BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE NCDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS AND STRUCTURES 2018, THE NCDOT ROADWAY
STANDARDS DRAWINGS, AND NCDOT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR ACCOMMODATING UTILITIES ON HIGHWAY RIGHTS OF
WAY.
37. NO PARKING OR MATERIAL STORAGE SHALL BE ALLOWED ALONG THE SHOULDERS OF ANY NCDOT ROADWAYS.
38. TWO-WAY TRAFFIC SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
39. AT THE END OF EACH WORKING DAY, EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PARKED OUTSIDE OF THE CLEAR RECOVERY ZONE IN ORDER
TO AVOID ANY OBSTRUCTION TO THE TRAVELING PUBLIC. THIS CLEAR RECOVERY ZONE IS MEASURED FROM THE EDGE OF
THE NEAREST TRAVEL LANE.
40. THE PAVING OF THIS ROADWAY SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REVISED NCDOT 2018 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS,
SECTIONS 610, 1012 AND 1020. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FOLLOW ALL PROCEDURES OF THE ATTACHED QUALITY
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (QMS) FOR ASPHALT PAVEMENT - MAINTENANCE VERSION. THE CONTRACTOR MUST ADHERE TO
ALL TESTING REQUIREMENTS AND QUALITY CONTROL REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT THE

CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL OSHA REQUIREMENTS AND PROVIDE A COMPETENT PERSON ON SITE TO SUPERVISE

47. BACKFILL MATERIAL IS TO BE PLACED AT A MAXIMUM OF 6 INCH LOOSE LAYERS AND EACH LAYER THOROUGHLY

SELF -INSPECTION PROGRAM:
THE SEDIMENT POLLUTION CONTROL ACT WAS AMENDED IN 2006 TO REQUIRE THAT PERSONS
RESPONSIBLE FOR LAND -DISTURBING ACTIVITIES INSPECT A PROJECT AFTER EACH PHASE OF THE
PROJECT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL PLAN IS BEING
FOLLOWED. RULES DETAILING THE DOCUMENTATION OF THESE INSPECTIONS TOOK
EFFECT OCTOBER 1, 2010. THE SELF -INSPECTION PROGRAM IS SEPARATE FROM THE WEEKLY
SELF -MONITORING PROGRAM OF THE NPDES STORMWATER PERMIT FOR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. THE
FOCUS OF THE SELF -INSPECTION REPORT IS THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF EROSION AND
SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES ACCORDING TO THE APPROVED PLAN. THE INSPECTIONS MUST BE
CONDUCTED AFTER EACH PHASE OF THE PROJECT, AND CONTINUED UNTIL PERMANENT GROUND COVER

SEEDING OPERATIONS TO PROTECT AND TO ACCOMMODATE ANY TEMPORARY SEEDING AND SOIL AND EROSION CONTROL MEASURES THAT MAY

A. GENERAL:

EXISTING MATERIAL BY THE CONTRACTOR. AN APPROVED TURF TYPE TALL FESCUE BLEND SHALL BE USED PER THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
KENTUCKY 31 IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE BLEND.
ii. WHEN SEEDING MUST TAKE PLACE OUT OF SEASON FOR PERMANENT GRASS THE APPROPRIATE TEMPORARY SEEDING SHALL BE DONE AND THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PERMANENT SEEDING AS SPECIFIED IN SEASON AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO OWNER.
iii. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LAWN MAINTENANCE THROUGH SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION. LAWNS MUST BE AT 90% COVERAGE AT
SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION REVIEW TO BE ACCEPTED. IF NOT AT 90% COVERAGE, SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION WILL BE DELAYED UNTIL THE
FOLLOWING GROWING SEASON.
B. SITE PREPARATION:
i. REMOVE OR KILL ANY UNDESIRABLE EXISTING TURF OR VEGETATION. HERBICIDE SPRAYING OR OTHER CHEMICAL TREATMENT SHALL BE APPROVED
BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO BEING USED BY THE CONTRACTOR. IF PREEXISTING TURF OR OTHER VEGETATION IS MIXED WITH THE SOIL TO BE
REUSED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL USE BEST JUDGEMENT IN REMOVING IT OR INCORPORATING IT INTO THE SOIL DURING PREPARATION.
ii. IF TOPSOIL WAS NOT USED TO REESTABLISH THE UPPER SOIL LAYER AND THE UPPER SOIL IS HEAVY WITH HIGH CLAY CONTENT, SPREAD 1.5-2
INCHES OF AGED GROUND PINE BARK OR BAGGED ORGANIC HUMUS OVER THE AREA TO BE REPAIRED.
iii. FOR ALL GRASSES EXCEPT CENTIPEDE GRASS, APPLY PER 1,000 SQUARE FEET: A MINIMUM OF 95 POUNDS OF AGRICULTURAL LIME AND ONE
OF THE FOLLOWING FERTILIZERS: 40 POUNDS OF 5-10-10; 20 POUNDS OF 0-20-20; OR 20 POUNDS OF 8-8-8 OR 10-10-10 IN
COMBINATION WITH 4 POUNDS OF 0-46-0. CENTIPEDE GRASS PREFERS ACIDIC SOILS AND LOW LEVELS OF PHOSPHORUS AND MAY NOT
REQUIRE THE ADDITION OF LIME AND PHOSPHORUS. ALSO, ONCE CONSTRUCTION BEGINS, SOIL TESTING WILL BE CONDUCTED, AND DEPENDING ON
THE RESULTS, ADDITIONAL LIME SHALL BE ADDED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
iv. INCORPORATE LIME AND FERTILIZER (AND PINE BARK IF ADDED) INTO THE TOP 6 INCHES OF THE SOIL USING A ROTOTILLER OR BY HAND.
ROTOTILL OR HAND CULTIVATE TO WELL INCORPORATE THE AMENDMENTS AND GET A UNIFORM LOOSELY TEXTURED SOIL OF MINIMUM 6-INCH
DEPTH.
v. RAKE OR HARROW THE SITE TO ESTABLISH A SMOOTH AND LEVEL FINAL GRADE. SOIL PARTICLES SHOULD BE NO LARGER THAN MARBLE SIZE,
AND PEA GRAVEL SIZE IS EVEN BETTER. HAND RAKING TO LEVEL THE SOIL AND WORK OUT HILLS AND HOLLOWS. FOR AREAS LARGER THAN
100 SQ. FT. ALLOW RAIN OR IRRIGATE TO SETTLE THE SOIL. IN SOME SITUATIONS, THE ENGINEER MAY REQUIRE ROLLING OR CULTIPACKING TO
FIRM THE SOIL BEFORE SEEDING. HAND RAKE AGAIN TO BREAK UP THE CRUSTY SURFACE BEFORE SEEDING OR PLANTING.
C. INSTALLATION:
L GENERAL
a. SEED OR PLANT THE REQUIRED GRASS ACCORDING TO TABLE 4.
b. THE CHOICE OF TURFGRASS TYPE, VARIETY AND PROPAGATION FORM SHALL BE SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, AS SPECIFIED IN THE
ITEMIZED PROPOSAL, OR AS DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER.
c. SEED SHALL BE TAGGED CERTIFIED SEED. GERMINATION SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 95%. SEED SHALL BE 98% PURE WITH LESS THAN 2%
OTHER -CROP SEED OR DEBRIS. SEED SHALL BE FREE OF NOXIOUS WEED SEED.
d. SOD, SPRIGS, PLUGS OR OTHER VEGETATIVE PLANT PROPAGATION MATERIALS SHALL BE CERTIFIED FREE OF NOXIOUS WEEDS. MATERIALS SHALL
BE IN GOOD HEALTH AND VIGOR, FREE OF DISEASE OR PESTS, OR DAMAGE FROM DRYNESS, ADVERSE TEMPERATURE, HERBICIDES, FERTILIZER OR
OTHER CHEMICALS. SPRIGS THAT ARE OLDER THAN 48 HOURS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE REGARDLESS OF CONDITION.
e. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A LOG OF DATES THAT SOD, SPRIGS, PLUGS, OR OTHER SEEDING INSTALLATION WAS COMPLETED FOR EACH
INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY AND SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OR INSPECTOR OF EACH DAY'S PROGRESS.
ii. SEEDING
a. SOW THE SEED ON FRESHLY PREPARED SOIL. ENSURE UNIFORM COVERAGE BY USING A CENTRIFUGAL ROTARY OR DROP -TYPE SPREADER.
AREAS LARGER THAN 100 SQ. FT. SHALL BE SEEDED WITH A MINIMUM OF TWO PASSES AT THE APPROPRIATE PARTIAL RATE FOR EACH PASS.
FOR AREAS AVERAGING GREATER 15 FT. WIDTH, APPLY HALF THE SEED IN ONE DIRECTION AND THE OTHER HALF AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE
FIRST DIRECTION.
b. APPLY A STARTER -TYPE FERTILIZER TO THE SOIL SURFACE FOR EXAMPLE, 10 POUNDS OF 5-10-10 OR 5 POUNDS OF 10-20-20 PER 1,000
SQUARE FEET AT THE TIME OF SEEDING.
c. LIGHTLY COVER THE SEED BY HAND RAKING OR DRAGGING WITH A MAT OR CHAIN -LINK FENCE. ROLL OR TAMP THE SOIL LIGHTLY TO FIRM THE
SURFACE AND PROVIDE GOOD SEED -TO -SOIL CONTACT.
d. MULCHING SHALL CONSIST OF SMALL GRAIN STRAW APPLIED AT A RATE OF 2 TONS PER ACRE. MULCHED AREAS SHALL BE TACKED WITH
ASPHALT OR OTHER APPROVED METHOD SUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE STRAW IN PLACE, AT A RATE OF 400 GALLONS PER ACRE.
D. CLEAN UP AND INSPECTION:
L UPON COMPLETION OF WORK THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE FROM THE SITE ALL EQUIPMENT AND OTHER ARTICLES USED. ALL EXCESS SOIL
STONE, AND DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED AND LEGALLY DISPOSED OF AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. ALL WORK AREAS SHALL BE
LEFT IN A CLEAN AND NEAT CONDITION. ALL DAMAGE TO EXISTING CONSTRUCTION CAUSED BY LANDSCAPING OPERATIONS SHALL BE REPAIRED
TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE TOWN AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
ii. SEEDED AREAS SHALL BE PROTECTED AND REPLANTED AS NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH A UNIFORM STAND OF SPECIFIED GRASS. SCATTERED
BARE SPOTS NONE OF WHICH SHALL BE LARGER THAT ONE 1 SQUARE FOOT WILL BE ALLOWED UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 3% OF THE SEEDED
AREA FOR EACH PROPERTY. WHEN SEEDED AREAS ARE READY FOR INSPECTION, THE MAINTAINED TURF AREAS SHALL BE NEATLY MOWED TO
THE UNIFORM HEIGHT OF APPROXIMATELY TWO AND ONE-HALF (2.5) INCHES. THE LAWNS SHALL BE CONSIDERED ESTABLISHED ONLY WHEN
THE SPECIFIED GRASS IS VIGOROUS AND GROWING WELL IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE OTHER REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED.
iii. AN INSPECTION OF THE COMPLETED SEEDING SHALL BE MADE AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE LANDSCAPE WORK UPON WRITTEN NOTICE
REQUESTING SUCH INSPECTION SUBMITTED BY THE CONTRACTOR TO THE ENGINEER, AT LEAST TEN (10) DAYS PRIOR TO THE ANTICIPATED DATE
OF INSPECTION.
iv. FINAL INSPECTION SHALL BE PERFORMED WHEN A SATISFACTORY STAND OF SEEDED TURF GRASS HAS BEEN PRODUCED, UPON WRITTEN NOTICE

18. MAINTAIN ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES UNTIL A PERMANENT GROUND COVER IS ESTABLISHED PER TOWN OF CARY

19. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL PROJECT EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES FOR STABILITY AND OPERATION
FOLLOWING EVERY RAIN EVENT AND ONCE EVERY SEVEN (7) DAYS AND WITHIN 24 CONSECUTIVE HOURS FOLLOWING A

AFTER EACH RAIN EVENT. SHOULD ANY DEVICES BE IN NEED OF REPAIRS, IMMEDIATELY MAKE REPAIRS.
21. SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED FROM BEHIND SILT FENCING OR OUTLET AREAS AND AT OTHER EROSION AND SEDIMENT
CONTROL DEVICES WHEN IT BECOMES 0.5 FEET (6 INCHES) OR GREATER AT THE DEVICE. ALL SILT FENCING AND OTHER

22. SEDIMENT OR DEBRIS SHALL BE SWEPT IMMEDIATELY FROM EACH ROADWAY OR STREET SECTION INCLUDING PAVEMENT
AREAS, SHOULDERS, CURB AND GUTTER, SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS OR OTHER IMPERVIOUS SURFACE AREAS AT A MININUM
