On April 23, 2022, the soil conditions were evaluated to determine the seasonally high water table within
the area of the proposed stormwater BMPs for the property referenced above. This investigation was
completed to comply with the requirements set forth in Rule NCAC 15A 02H and parts A2 and C6 of the
North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Stormwater Design Manual. All soil samples were
evaluated with a hand auger and sample locations were logged using a Trimble GEO 7x GPS data collector.
Identification of the Seasonally Nigh Water Table
Determination of the depth to the seasonally high water table is accomplished through field evaluation for
soil wetness conditions indicated by the presence of redoximorphic features of chroma 2 or less (Munsell
Soil Color Book) either as mottles or matrix color. Colors of chroma 2 or less due to relic minerals from
parent material (underlying saprolite and rock), perched water table due to soil texture changes, or anaerobic
conditions due to the placement of fill material are not considered as SHWT indicators. Stormwater BMPs
such as the planned sand filter for this project site must be designed to provide at least two feet of separation
between the SHWT and the lowest elevation of the bottom of the BMPs (with consideration for an
additional 6" deducted for the movement of water within the capillary fringe above the SHWT). The
following figures include deduction for the capillary fringe.
No SHWT was encountered under the proposed BMP location to elevation 743' (approximately 10' below
natural ground surface).
