Description
This plan serves as a guide for maintaining the operation Stormwater Sewer Systems,
catch basins, and open conveyance systems operated by the City of Gastonia as outlined in Part
II Section A.7 and G.2.f of the NPDES MS4 Permit number NCS000429.
All aforementioned devices are maintained in a variety of ways including the use of Sweeper
trucks, Vacuum Truck, various heavy equipment and manual labor. Engineered designs are to
follow the latest NC Stormwater Design Manual as provided by NC Department of Environmental
Quality.
Inspection Procedure and Authori
Site inspections are conducted by field personnel observation and citizen request and
maintenance of street systems are performed as part of routine routes (see attached Appendix
A for sweeper routes). Maintenance is conducted regularly throughout the year to ensure that
municipally owned infrastructure is functioning as intended. Specific repairs and project reports
are generated in the current work order asset management system Hansen.
Additional Considerations
When performing inspections, it is also pertinent to examine the inlets, outlets and
drainage area to the SCMs. To ensure that the most effective maintenance is being considered,
it is also important to ensure that no additional contributions of impacts are accelerating the
maintenance frequency, thereby impairing the overall function of the city owned basins and
conveyance systems.
