The Bakelite Synthetics (Bakelite) Acme facility is submitting this written response in regards to NOV-2022-
PC-0480 dated September 6, 2022 and received September 15, 2022. The findings in the NOV are related
to an on -site inspection conducted at the facility on August 31, 2022 by Brian West. Following the site
inspection, the Bakelite facility initiated remedial actions based on observations provided by Mr. West at
the time of inspection.
The NOV received was for effluent samples not being collected at the frequency required in the permit.
Currently, the only process related flow through Outfall 002 is Entegris' Cooling Tower 12 blow down
activities. When Bakelite prepared for sampling, there was no observed flow through Outfall 002 as
Entegris' Cooling Tower 12 blow down activities are an intermittent process. No sampling took place since
no flow was observed.
To address the findings in the NOV, the following actions have occurred:
Coordinated with Entegris on discharge of Cooling Water Blowdown via Outfall 002 providing
timing on sampling opportunities;
Updated our internal compliance tracking system for coordination with Entegris for conducting
future sampling; and
Conducted Outfall 002 sampling activities and shipped the samples for lab analysis on September
21, 2022.
The actions outlined above are intended to correct the identified problem and prevent future compliance
issues in regards to sampling of Outfall 002. If you have any questions in regards to this matter, please
