Lee, Secretary There are no North Carolina numerical water quality standards for copper and zinc at this time. They, however, are covered by Section .0208 of Title 15 Chapter 2. This section states "the concentration of toxic substances in the receiving water, when not specified elsewhere in this section, shall not exceed one -one hundredth (0.01) of the 96-hour LC50" The Biological Monitoring Group of Technical Services is planning andzinc. run bioassey tests to determine the 96-hour LC50 for copper These tests will probably be run this spring. Presently, we are recommending that permits with copper or zinc limits - use the BPT value with the stipulation that the limits are subject to revision once the 96-hour LC50 concentration are determined. For Teledyne Allvac BPT values, we suggest that you use the present permit limits for copper and zinc. If you have any further questions on this matter, please let us know. P.
