Luke, Andrea, Lori, and Byron, The purpose of this email is to notify you that construction is planned to start on this project on October 17, 2022. Per Condition 11 of our DWR 401 Water Quality Certification and Special Condition 1 of our Army Corps 404 permit, we are notifying you at least 3 weeks before construction is to begin so that the affected reaches can be surveyed for mussels and/or hellbenders. Please let us know if you plan to survey this reach so we can notify staff at the Asheville Water Plant. Thank you. DWR Condition: 11. The applicant shall notify Luke Etchison (luke.etchison@ncwildlife.org) and Andrea Leslie (andrea.leslie@ncwildlife.org) at least three weeks before construction is to begin so that the affected reaches can be surveyed for mussels and hellbenders and found animals can be relocated. If any hellbenders are disturbed during project construction, animals should be captured in a bucket and relocated away from the area of disturbance. You are to contact Byron Hamstead (byron_hamstead(aifws.gov), Luke Etchison (1uke.etchison(a ncwildlife.org), Li Williams (lori.williams(z ncwildlife.org), and Andrea Leslie (andrea.leslie(a ncwildlife.org) at least three (3) weeks j the start of project construction in order to coordinate with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and North Caro: Wildlife Resources Commission (\VRC) to have their biologist survey the project area for mussel species.
