Alys, Our Condition Assessment for the Bynum WWTP went quicker than expected and we were able to put the Bynum WWTP back in operation on Thursday morning, rather than Thursday evening — Friday morning. We decided that it was best to not reintroduce the Frac Tank contents back into the Bynum WWTP and therefore we hauled about 22,000 gallons to the Siler City WWTP. We also imported some "bugs" from the Pittsboro WWTP (2,000 gallons) to help facilitate the biological processes. The Bynum WWTP is back in operations and is working well. The Bynum WWTP has about 20,000 gallons of storage capacity and therefore the cells have NOT filled up and started discharging to the Haw River. We expect that the Bynum WWTP will fill up and start discharging by late Saturday or early Sunday. Wayme Marsh the ORC will be checking on the Bynum WWTP this weekend to confirm it is operating per specifications. Chatham County is performing a Condition Assessment and maintenance on our Bynum WWTP. We are planning to drain the aeration basins and clarifier and inspect the basins, install new air diffusers, camera and clean the WWTP influent pipe and the effluent pipe. It will be necessary to shut down the WWTP and set up a by-pass pump to pump sewage from the gravity sanitary sewer collection system to the Frac Tank (20,000 gallons). We intend to stage the work so the existing WWTP contents can be transferred between basins as we drain and inspect the basins and the other basins will be kept in operation with aeration. Our intent is to complete the work within 4 days and if successful to return the sewage stored in the Frac Tank to the WWTP at a rate of less than 3.5 gallons per minute (5,000 gallons per day). The activated sludge storage basin will be emptied and disposed of through Chatham County's sludge hauler. We have a contract to haul the Frac tank contents to the Siler City WWTP if it is necessary, however, we hope to return it to the Bynum WWTP (estimated 4,000 gpd or 16,000 gallons for 4 days). If the work takes more than 4 days (Mon. —Thur.) the WWTP will be put back into operation on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the WWTP will be shutdown the following Monday. Freese Nichols is the Engineer managing the project for the County and we have contracted with Hydrostructures and Carolina Civilworks to perform the Work. Our intent is to shut down the Bynum WWTP on Monday August 8 and to complete the work by Thursday August 11 and put the WWTP back in operation by Friday August 12. We normally perform our testing on Tuesday, however, we will perform our testing on Monday August 8 (before we take the WWTP offline). If you have any questions or require further information, please call or email me. Blake Mills, PE Chatham County Public Utilities Director 964 East Street Pittsboro, NC 27312 919 542-8238
