RE: PCN Application Package for 40 Linear Feet of Stream Impacts
For RTP Bank Stabilization near Little Drive.
Research Triangle Foundation
RTP, Wake County, North Carolina
Dear Ms. Higgins;
15401 Weston Parkway
Suite 100
Cary. NC'275I I
Man 919 678'0035
www wspgroup conVusa
The project consists of the placement of Class I rip -rap along a 40 foot section of bank of an unnamed
tributary (UT) of Kit Creek in Research Triangle Park. The unnamed tributary to Kit Creek 1s a perennial
stream that is located within the Cape Fear River Basin. The subject area is an existing wooded parcel
in the Southeast corner of the intersection of Davis Drive and Little Drive. An existing 20 -foot town of
Cary sanitary sewer easement parallels the stream in this location. Additionally, construction of a
greenway trail within this easement is on -going at this time.
A debris dam developed within the stream approximately 200 feet upstream from Little Drive. This debris
jam and heavy rainfall events this summer have caused severe erosion of the left stream bank., This
eroded /undercut stream bank has encroached into the sanitary sewer easement and is a potential risk
for exposing the sanitary sewer main located within this easement if not stabilized This project will
place compacted fill 'in the area of undercutting and erosion to provide a more stable bank slope.
Additionally, this slope will be stabilized with class I rip -rap to provide protection from future erosion.
The project will permanently impact the UT stream. The project will create 40 If of permanent stream
impacts. Permanent stream impacts are for riprap slope stabilization of the left bank of the stream. No
wetlands are present at this location of stabilization.
It is WSP's pleasure to submit this PCN application package on behalf of the Research Triangle
Foundation. Please feel free to contact me at (919) 678 -0035 or dale.hyatt@wsr)grour).com if you have
any questions oir comments.
Sincerely,
FDalet, PE, CFM

During a recent heavy rainfall a,debrns, jam located within the channel ohhe unnamed'tnbutary to Kit Creek caused
severe erosion of the left (south) channel bank adjacent to the Town of'Cary sanitary sewer easement near the
intersection of Little Drive and Davis Drive This bank erosion has migrated into the sanitary sewer easement and without
stabilization may continue to migrate and expose the sanitary sewer pipe in this location This project-will provide hard
stabilization, in the form of rip -rap to provide bank stabilization and to mirnmimze future erosion of this channel bank
3e Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used
The project will involve placement of compacted fill'to provide a more stable 2 1 bank slope Non -woven geotextde filter
