NCDOT is requesting a permit modification for the above - mentioned project due to the close
proximity of the new drilled shafts to the creek bank. We need to extend the stream bank
stabilization approximately 50' along the front of the new bridge shafts. The shafts are right on the
creek bank, and the material will not remain stable on the stream side.
Also, when comparing the Permit Drawings to the Plan Sheets, the structure plans show Class II Rip
Rap slope protection at both end bents. The Permit Drawings do not show this rip rap. We do not
know if this was eliminated because it is only 25 -50' from the creek bank, and not a permit concern,
or if it was missed. It could probably be eliminated, but we would prefer it placed in order to protect
the end bents.
