SIZE OF REQUIRED PLANTS, SPREAD OF ROOTS AND SIZE OF BALLS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANSI Z60.1 (LATEST EDITION) AS PUBLISHED BY THE AMERICAN NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION. 11. ALL NEW TREES MUST HAVE STRAIGHT TRUNKS WITH STRONG CENTRAL LEADERS INTACT TO THE TOP OF THE CROWN UNLESS MULTI -STEM TREES ARE SPECIFIED. ALL REQUIRED TREES SHALL BE TYPICAL OF THEIR SPECIES AND VARIETY, HAVE NORMAL GROWTH HABITS, HAVE WELL -DEVELOPED BRANCHES, BE VIGOROUS AND HAVE FIBROUS ROOT SYSTEMS. TREES WITH MAJOR GIRDLING ROOTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. TREES WITH CO -DOMINANT BRANCHING WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. TREES THAT HAVE BEEN SHEARED, TOPPED OR CUT BACK TO MULTIPLY THE BRANCHING STRUCTURE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. TREES SHALL BE FREE OF ABRASIONS, DAMAGE, DISEASE, PESTS AND CRACKS. ROOT FLARES SHALL BE LOCATED AT GRADE. TREES WITH MORE THAN 2" OF SOIL COVERING THE ROOT BALL/FLARE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. SIZE OF REQUIRED PLANTS, SPREAD OF ROOTS AND SIZE OF BALLS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANSI Z60.1 (LATEST EDITION) AS PUBLISHED BY THE AMERICAN NURSERY & LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION. ALL REQUIRED TREES OF A PARTICULAR SPECIES AND VARIETY SHALL BE UNIFORM IN SIZE AND CONFIGURATION. SOIL SPECIFICATIONS: TILL AMENDED SOIL INTO EXISTING SOIL FOR SHRUB BEDS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING: PLANTING MIX SHALL HAVE UNIFORM COMPOSITION THROUGHOUT, WITH A MIXTURE OF SUBSOIL. IT SHALL BE FREE OF STONES, LUMPS, LIVE PLANTS AND THEIR ROOTS, STICKS, AND OTHER EXTRANEOUS MATTER. IT SHALL CONTAIN NO MAN MADE MATERIALS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. PLANTING MIX SHALL NOT BE USED WHILE IN A FROZEN OR MUDDY CONDITION. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH OWNER TO MODIFY THE EXISTING IRRIGATION SYSTEM TO SERVE NEW PLANTING AREAS. 2. TREES ARE TO BE IRRIGATED WITH BUBBLER NOZZLES. SEEDING NOTES 1. GRASS SEED 1.1. SHALL BE A TALL FESCUE BLEND 1.2. SOW SEED AT A TOTAL RATE OF 8 LB/1000 SQ. FT. 2. FERTILIZER: 2.1. FERTILIZE WITH A COMMERCIAL -GRADE COMPLETE FERTILIZER OF NEUTRAL CHARACTER, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW LAWNS, CONSISTING OF FAST- AND SLOW -RELEASE NITROGEN, 50 PERCENT DERIVED FROM NATURAL ORGANIC SOURCES OF UREA FORMALDEHYDE, PHOSPHOROUS, AND POTASSIUM BROADCAST AT THE RATE RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. 3. LAWN PREPARATION: 3.1. LOOSEN GRADE TO A MINIMUM DEPTH OF 4 INCHES. REMOVE STONES LARGER THAN 1 INCH IN ANY DIMENSION AND STICKS, ROOTS, RUBBISH, AND OTHER EXTRANEOUS MATTER AND LEGALLY DISPOSE OF THEM OFF OWNER'S PROPERTY. 3.2. GRADE PLANTING AREAS TO A SMOOTH, UNIFORM SURFACE PLANE WITH LOOSE, UNIFORMLY FINE TEXTURE. GRADE TO WITHIN PLUS OR MINUS 1/2 INCH OF FINISH ELEVATION. ROLL AND RAKE, REMOVE RIDGES, AND FILL DEPRESSIONS TO MEET FINISH GRADES. LIMIT FINISH GRADING TO AREAS THAT CAN BE PLANTED IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE. 3.3. MOISTEN PREPARED LAWN AREAS BEFORE PLANTING IF SOIL IS DRY. WATER THOROUGHLY AND ALLOW SURFACE TO DRY BEFORE PLANTING. DO NOT CREATE MUDDY SOIL. 3.4. BEFORE PLANTING, RESTORE AREAS IF ERODED OR OTHERWISE DISTURBED AFTER FINISH GRADING. 3.5. PROTECT SEEDED AREAS WITH SLOPES BY SPREADING STRAW MULCH. SPREAD UNIFORMLY AT A MINIMUM RATE OF 2 TONS/ACRE TO FORM A CONTINUOUS BLANKET 1-1/2 INCHES IN LOOSE DEPTH OVER SEEDED AREAS. SPREAD BY HAND, BLOWER, OR OTHER SUITABLE EQUIPMENT. ANCHOR STRAW MULCH BY CRIMPING INTO SOIL WITH SUITABLE MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT. 4. LAWN MAINTENANCE: 4.1. MAINTAIN AND ESTABLISH LAWN BY WATERING, FERTILIZING, WEEDING, MOWING, TRIMMING, REPLANTING, AND OTHER OPERATIONS UNTIL ACCEPTABLE LAWN IS ESTABLISHED OR UNTIL FINAL BUILDING ACCEPTANCE BY OWNER, WHICHEVER IS LATER. ROLL, REGRADE, AND REPLANT BARE OR ERODED AREAS AND REMULCH TO PRODUCE A UNIFORMLY SMOOTH LAWN. PROVIDE MATERIALS AND INSTALLATION THE SAME AS THOSE USED IN THE ORIGINAL INSTALLATION. 4.2. MOW LAWN AS SOON AS TOP GROWTH IS TALL ENOUGH TO CUT. REPEAT MOWING TO MAINTAIN SPECIFIED HEIGHT WITHOUT CUTTING MORE THAN 1/3 OF GRASS HEIGHT. REMOVE NO MORE THAN 1/3 OF GRASS -LEAF GROWTH IN INITIAL OR SUBSEQUENT MOWINGS. 5. SATISFACTORY LAWNS 5.1. SATISFACTORY SEEDED LAWN: AT END OF MAINTENANCE PERIOD, A HEALTHY, UNIFORM, CLOSE STAND OF GRASS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED, FREE OF WEEDS AND SURFACE IRREGULARITIES, WITH COVERAGE EXCEEDING 90 PERCENT OVER ANY 10 SQ.
