To whom it may concern:
S&ME has prepared this Monitoring Well Construction Letter in association with the geotechnical subsurface
investigation at the Reems Creek Substation site in Buncombe County, North Carolina (See Attachment I for the
Site location Plan).
S&ME constructed one(1) monitoring well at the referenced site for the purpose of monitoring subsurface water
levels over time. The monitoring well, located off of Aiken Road in Weaverville,was denoted MW-1. The
monitoring well was constructed with 2-inch diameter, Schedule 40 PVC riser pipe and well screen type materials.
Well screen materials were 2-inch diameter,slotted 0.01-inch, Schedule 40 PVC. Generally, silica sand (No.2 Sand)
was placed around the well screen and to a height of 2.8 feet above the top of the well screen. A 2.5-foot-thick
layer of bentonite was placed above the No.2 sand. The remainder of the well and annulus between the outer
riser pipe and boring wall was grouted with Type II Portland Cement.
The Monitoring Well was constructed in general accordance with North Carolina Department of Environmental
Quality(NCDEQ) Standard 15A NCAC 02C.0108.A Well Construction Record (form GW-1) is attached to this letter
along with Well Construction Details.
