The purpose of the project is to replace a structurally deficient bridge with a box culvert.

The project proposes to replace Bridge#183 over an UT to Haw River on Running Creek Rd.The existing structure is a one span bridge which will be replaced by 2@12'X10'RCBC.The
structure has been designed to have minimum impact on surface waters.The proposed culvert will function similarly to the existing bridge.It will provide a better alignment with the stream
and provide bank stabilization in the vicinity of the crossing.A justification for a bridge to culvert has been attached to this application.

Roadway approach work was minimized as much as possible to reduce the overall footprint of the project.An offsite detour will be utilized during
construction in order to avoid the need for a temporary crossing.Future stream impacts will be reduced by protecting the inlet and outlet ends of the
culvert with riprap bank stabilization.
