No waste has been sent to the lagoon since late February 2008. Currently the water plant alum waste is transported through the sanitary sewer to the Thomasville WWTP. Sludge Management Plan This facility does not currently have a sludge management plan, however several companies have been approached to provide solutions for long term sludge management at this facility. Some options include using the material as an amendment in the manufacture of bricks, or as an amendment to composting materials (if it can be verified that this meets the 503 regulations). Additional funding has been requested for further study of the options. The City is still evaluating options for resolution to the sludge removal and disposal issue. A sludge management plan will be developed once all options have been evaluated and before the lagoon is to be put back in service. In the mean time, sludge generated by the City's Water Plant from alum treatment of the water, will be treated and disposed of through the City's Wastewater Plant. Sludge disposal through the WWTP is handled by landfill of sludge at a Subtitle D lined landfill or through land application under 503 regulations.
