Hi Amy,
The newly constructed and mostly completed channel to carry Smith Creek and the channel to
carry a tributary we reviewed this morning appeared to be in good stable condition. The
channel, Rock and Roll Riffles, Toe Wood protection, Boulder walls and other features
appeared to be built per the plan. Stream banks and riparian areas were covered with core
fiber matting and straw and seeded. There were a few bare soil areas that needed to be re-
worked. DOT staff assured me that additional stabilization of these areas would begin today,
along with planned live stake planting this fall per the plan.
We observed and you mentioned there was a small portion of addition channel work that
needed to be conducted near the outlet of the culvert extension and that once that was
complete, Smith Creek and its tributary would likely be turned into the new channels soon
thereafter. We agree with that approach and request that you notify me when that has
occurred —for the project file.
Follow-up monitoring remains the same per the Plan submitted with the above referenced
permit modification. As built plans should be submitted to me once they are available.
Let me know if you need anything further. Have a great weekend.
Dave W.
