(Shield) successfully collected the 3rd Quarter 2021 stormwater samples for Stormwater Discharge Outfall (SDO) #001 at the Daimler Trucks Gastonia facility during the month of July 2021. A cover letter dated August 10, 2021, a competed Stormwater Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR), a Qualitative Monitoring Report and the analytical results were emailed to you on August 13, 2021. The rain event on July 811 did not produce enough rain to collect the stormwater samples for SDO #002 and SDO #003. 3rd Quarter (revised) Shield continued to monitor daily weather conditions to collect stormwater samples at these outfalls, for the 3" quarter 2021 (July —September 2021). However, other than the July 811 rainfall event, there were no other qualifying rainfall events for the 3rd quarter 2021 as defined by General Permit No. NCG030000. As a result, no stormwater samples were collected for SDO #002 and SDO #003 at the Daimler Trucks — Gastonia Facility during this quarter. According to rainfall data' collected for this time period, four rain events or group events occurred on July 2nd, July 71n July 181h and July 2511, producing 0.19, 2.05, 1.78 and 0.79 inches of rain, respectively for the month of July; four rain events or group events occurred on August 3rd, August 14tn, August 25tn and August 311t, producing 0.30, 2.08, 0.29 and 0.56 inches of rain, respectively for the month of August; four rain events or group events occurred on September lst, September 81n, September 161n, and September 20tn, producing 1.34, 0.14, 0.15 and 0.91 inches of rain, respectively for the month of September. Each of the other events took place after normal business hours, within 72 hours of the rain event, or did not produce enough rainfall to collect a sample. The revised DMR for the 3rd Quarter is attached to this cover letter. Wh Quarter There were no qualifying rainfall events for the 411 quarter 2021 as defined by General Permit No. NCG030000. According to rainfall data' collected for this time period, two rain events or group events occurred on October V, and October 25th, producing 0.49 and 0.69 inches of rain, respectively for the month of October; four rain events or group events occurred on November 411, November 11th, November 22nd and November 261h, producing 0.13, 0.36, 0.21 and 0.02 inches of rain, respectively for the month of November; three rain events or group events occurred on December 8th, December 181h, and December 29th, producing 1.38, 0.71, and 0.15 inches of rain, respectively for the month of December. Shield attempted to collect samples during the November 4th rain event, however there was not enough rain for the SDOs to flow. Each of the other events took place after normal business hours, within 72 hours of the rain event, or did not produce enough rainfall to collect a sample. The DMR for the 4th Quarter is attached to this cover letter. According to www.drought.gov, Gaston County is in D2 — Severe Drought category. The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) shows the location and intensity of drought across the country using a five -category system, from Abnormally Dry (DO) to Exceptional Drought (D4). The USDM is a joint effort of the National Drought Mitigation Center, USDA, and NOAA. Shield will continue to monitor daily weather conditions and attempt coordination of appropriate staff and resources to facilitate adequate sample collection. A partially completed Discharge Monitoring Report form is attached to this cover letter for signature of the appropriate authorized permittee and submittal to the State. Daimler remains in Tier 1 for Copper at SDO #001 and Tier 1 for TSS at SOO #002. Shield greatly appreciates the opportunity to provide environmental services to Daimler Trucks of North America.
